Sleater-Kinney played Kings Theatre (pics, setlist, video), play Hammerstein tonight

Sleater-Kinney‘s tour is parked in NYC currently for a two-night stay, and they played the first of those shows Wednesday night at Kings Theatre. While new St. Vincent-produced album The Center Won’t Hold has been a bit divisive, with drummer Janet Weiss’ parting from the group part of it, the group are rightly proud of it, starting the night with its two opening songs — the title track and “Hurry on Home” — and playing every song from it over the course of the night. While the album is a sleeker beast, live the songs fit in seamlessly with the classics like “Modern Girl,” “One More Hour” and “Dig Me Out.” The band — which includes new drummer Angie Boyan, past live member Katie Harkin and Enon/St. Vincent keyboardist Toko Yasuda — were clearly excited and happy to be there, with Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein leading things with boundless energy. After a 22-song main set, the band came back for two encores.

Pictures from Kings Theatre are in the gallery above (we missed opener Joseph Keckler) and setlist and a few videos from the show are below. Sleater-Kinney move to Manhattan for Halloween, playing Hammerstein Ballroom tonight and tickets are still available.
