Sloppy Jane – ‘La Cluster’ (video premiere + tour dates)

Sloppy Jane at Knitting Factory

Brooklyn 9-piece band Sloppy Jane (8 people and a television), who used to count Phoebe Bridgers as a member when they were LA based, first made a visual impact on the pages of BrooklynVegan recently with photos from their set opening for Mourn at Knitting Factory. As she always does, singer Haley played completely naked (except for socks). We wrote:

Frontwoman Haley Dahl relocated to Brooklyn from LA and recreated her band with a new lineup, which seems to be still evolving; there were seven members onstage at Knitting Factory, but there have been as many as eight. Before a cacophony of instrumentation (including a violin, a saxophone, and recorders), Haley, covered in paint and naked except for socks, was the main focus. When she wasn’t playing guitar she was directly confronting the audience or writhing on the floor.

Today we’re happy to be premiering some more of their visuals (though a bit more safe for work), along with new song “La Cluster”, a danceable, mostly-instrumental, surf-rock referencing song with vocal harmonies at the end that are well worth the wait. Check out the fun video right here:

About the video, Haley says:

“One of my favorite children’s films has this amazing dance piece that goes along with an instrumental song, this is nothing like it but it’s where the idea came from. I never really imagined that it would come to fruition because usually songs without choruses aren’t the ones that people get hyped about, and it was an idea that required a lot of people. But Savannah and Christina are so brilliant and were so amazing to work with and made everything really easy, as well as all of the dancers. Obviously it is a one shot, but we rehearsed it so many times that it was also done in the first take.”

Sloppy Jane have a bunch of shows coming up in NY and California. You can catch them as soon as this Friday night at HECK, and at all the places listed along with full video credits, below…
