Somos Phil Haggerty

Somos guitarist Phil Haggerty has passed away

Very sad news: Phil Haggerty, guitarist of Boston indie-emo band Somos, has passed away. The band broke the news on social media, writing, “We lost our dearest friend and guitarist Phil Haggerty earlier today. He was an immensely caring friend and an all around beautiful person, and he is gone far too soon. Phil Haggerty forever.” He was 28.

Tiny Engines and Hopeless Records, both of which have released Somos music, also posted statements. Tiny Engines wrote, “So sorry to share this news. Phil Haggerty of Somos passed away earlier today. Phil was a wonderful musician and a kind, caring person. Our condolences and love to Phil’s family and friends.” Hopeless wrote, “Incredibly sad to hear that Phil Haggerty of Somos has passed away. The spirit, kindness and art he offered the world will be truly missed.”

No cause of death has been given at this time.

Somos had recently revealed that they would be releasing their third album on Tiny Engines this fall. It’s the followup to First Day Back, which we named one of the best emo/punk albums of 2016.

UPDATE: Somos released their new album early for one week only, with all proceeds going to Phil’s funeral expenses. Purchase it and help out Phil’s family while you can at Bandcamp. The official release date is October 11.

Rest in peace, Phil. You’ll be missed and you’re gone way too soon.
