Soul Rebels

Soul Rebels returning to BK w/ Pete Rock & Smoke DZA (watch a video from their last run)

NOLA brass band The Soul Rebels are returning to NYC’s Brooklyn Bowl on August 4, and like they often do, they’re collaborating on stage with some exciting hip hop guests. This time they’ll be joined by New York rap legend Pete Rock and comparative newcomer Smoke DZA (who released a very good collaborative album late last year). Tickets are on sale now.

Along with the show announcement, we’re premiering a video of a James Brown/Nas tribute that The Soul Rebels did at their March run at Brooklyn Bowl. When The Soul Rebels toured with Nas last spring, they learned James Brown’s “The Boss” for Nas’ “Get Down,” which samples the song. The video we’re premiering has The Soul Rebels pulling from both of those songs. Watch below.

Coincidentally, we caught Nas in NYC last night (7/19) and he opened with “Get Down.”

The last time Soul Rebels were in NYC, they did a big tribute to Prodigy of Mobb Deep in Prospect Park with Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch, and Kirk Knight. Check out pics and videos of that show here.
