Soul Rebels, Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch & Kirk Knight paid tribute to Prodigy in Prospect Park (pics, videos)

To celebrate the late Prodigy‘s life, NOLA brass band (and Prodigy collaborators) The Soul Rebels turned their Celebrate Brooklyn! show in Prospect Park into a Prodigy tribute this past Saturday (6/24). They were joined by New York rap veterans Talib Kweli and Pharoahe Monch, plus Pro Era’s Kirk Knight, whose music owes a lot to the style of New York rap that Prodigy helped pioneer. Instead of holding a moment of silence for Prodigy, they held a moment of noise and had the entire place screaming (we’re told nearly 10,000 people flocked to Prospect Park for the free show). Then they went into a handful of Prodigy and Mobb Deep songs. Watch videos of the moment of noise, “Keep It Thoro,” and an instrumental “Shook Ones” below.

Goapele opened the show and Natasha Diggs DJed. Photos are in the gallery above.

In related news, Eminem and Kendrick Lamar rapped Prodigy verses on Peter Rosenberg’s show.
