Sound on Sound podcast sheds light on new fest & those playing it

This weekend is the inaugural Sound on Sound festival in McDade, TX (just outside of Austin), which is put on by Margin Walker Presents, a new company formed by the people behind the sorely-missed Fun Fun Fun Fest (SOS is basically the new FFF. Both are named after Big Boys songs.)

The lineup is basically as amazing as FFF always was. They’ve got legendary punk bands like Descendents, Youth of Today and (Black) FLAG; metal legends Carcass, the soon-to-break-up Dillinger Escape Plan; the reunited Thursday and Planes MIstaken for Stars; wild rap groups Run the Jewels and Death Grips; indie rock giants Guided by Voices, Deerhunter, Beach House, Courtney Barnett and Explosions in the Sky; and smaller-but-killer bands like Touche Amore, White Lung, Baroness, Protomartyr and Beach Slang. And that’s not even half of it.

The festival recently launched a podcast, hosted by by Matt Sonzala, where Matt brings on some people who helped put the festival together and others who are playing it. The first episode is with Ian Orth, who works with Margin Walker Presents and is also in the band Orthy (who are playing the fest). That one especially digs into the very interesting history on how this whole fest came to be. Other episodes have festival founder/booker Graham Williams, Jeff Walker of Carcass, Sammy Siegler of Youth of Today, and Keith Morris of FLAG. Listen to those, and a few others, right here:
