Speedy Ortiz announce new album & tour, share "Lucky 88"
Speedy Ortiz have announced their third album, Twerp Verse, the followup to 2015’s Foil Deer. They recorded the album at Brooklyn’s Silent Barn, and it was mixed by Bright Eyes collaborator Mike Mogis. It’s also their first album with new guitarist Andy Molholt (of Laser Background), who joins singer/guitarist/keyboardist Sadie Dupuis, bassist Darl Ferm, and drummer Mike Falcone. The first single is “Lucky 88,” which is a nice dose of the kind of grungy indie rock that Speedy have always done well, and it’s fleshed out with noticeably more synths than their earlier material. The album drops on April 27 via Carpark. Watch the Emily Yoshida-directed video for the new song below (via NPR).
The band also announced a tour, including a Brooklyn show on May 17 at Music Hall of Williamsburg. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (2/23) at 10 AM with an AmEx presale starting today (2/21) at noon. All dates, including a visit to SXSW, are listed below.
