Spike Lee celebrating 'Do The Right Thing' with Bed-Stuy block party

Spike Lee throws an annual block party in Bed-Stuy for Michael Jackson’s birthday, and this year he’ll celebrate the 30th anniversary of his classic film Do The Right Thing the same way. He’s throwing a free block party on June 30 from 12 PM-7 PM on Stuyvesant Avenue between Lexington and Quincy, where most of the film was shot and which was christened “Do The Right Thing Way” in 2015. “It’s going to be lit,” Lee told The Wrap.

The film is also being screened in theaters to celebrate the occasion, as Deadline reports, complete with 4K restoration. In addition, select theaters in NYC, LA, Chicago, Austin, and Brookline MA will screen a 35mm edition. you can also see that 4K restoration as part of Criterion Collection’s upcoming 2-disc Blu-ray/DVD set that’s out July 23 (two days after the film’s actual 30th anniversary).

Spike Lee is set to appear at OZY Fest in Central Park next month.
