St. Vincent, Brooklyn Youth Chorus & more performing at BAM virtual gala

Brooklyn Academy of Music usually holds their annual gala in May, but with social distancing guidelines in effect, they’re taking it virtual for 2020. The BAM Virtual Gala happens on May 13 at 8 PM ET, and actress and director Cate Blanchett, writer Zadie Smith, and producer and philanthropist Jeanne Donovan Fisher will be the evening’s honorees.

The livestream is set to feature performances from St. Vincent, The Brooklyn Youth Chorus (dedicating a Philip Glass composition to Jeanne Donovan Fisher), Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch company member Julie Anne Stanzak (doing a solo dance on in honor of Cate Blanchett), and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (screening an original performance film in honor of Zadie Smith).

The virtual gala will also include an online art auction, running from May 13 through May 27.

“We are excited to share this unique experience as part of our current digital Love from BAM programming,” president Katy Clark says. “Our greatest concern right now is for everyone’s health and safety. When we can safely come together once again, we’ll look forward to seeing you at BAM.”
