St. Vincent covered Joni Mitchell at Trans-Pecos Festival (watch)

Marfa, TX’s Trans-Pecos Festival of Music + Love held its fourteenth annual edition over the weekend (9/26-9/29), and as she’s done multiple times in the past, Annie Clark, aka St. Vincent, made a surprise appearance. She joined in on Robert Ellis‘s tribute to legendary West Texas artist Boyd Elder with a cover of Joni Mitchell’s “Coyote,” which you can watch fan-taken video clips of below. Margo Price, Erika Wennerstrom of The Heartless Bastards, Butch Walker and Tift Merrit, all of whom were on the festival lineup, also joined the “El Cosmico Family Band” for portions of the tribute set, with Erika covering Walter Zevon’s “Lawyers, Guns, and Money;” watch a clip of that below too.

As mentioned, Annie (who grew up in Dallas) has a history of showing up at Trans-Pecos Festival; she joined Fiona Apple on a few songs in 2017, and Jenny Lewis in 2015.

Robert Ellis released Texas Piano Man back in February, and he’s going on tour in October, including dates with Rufus Wainwright, Deer Tick, and Deer Tick’s Ian O’Neil.
