‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ is here…and The The’s Matt Johnson is in it (so is Nigel Godrich)
can you find The The’s Matt Johnson in this poster (correct answer: no)
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is finally here, making its debut in theaters tonight. (Did you buy your tickets already?) Spoiler alert: reviews have been mostly positive. Speaking of, this isn’t so much a spoiler as something for ’80s alt-rock fans to look out for. The The main man Matt Johnson has a cameo in the film. He posted a picture on Facebook from the London premiere, saying, “For the eagle-eyed amongst you I actually have a small cameo in background in the castle scene. I was invited onto the set, and into the film, by the lovely JJ Abrams, who shares your love of ‘Soul Mining’.”
Way to go, Matt. The The’s Soul Mining is definitely a classic, and if you’ve never heard it before, you can stream it below.
UPDATE: As Steregum reports, Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich is in it too.
Also if you haven’t seen it already, Jimmy Fallon got a lot of the Star Wars cast to sing an a cappella version of John Williams’ classic Star Wars theme with house band The Roots for a segment on The Tonight Show and you can watch that below too.
