On what would have been Chris Cornell‘s 54th birthday, his wife Vicky Cornell announced Friday (7/20) that a statue of the late Soundgarden frontman will be erected in his hometown of Seattle, at the city’s Museum of Pop Culture. According to Billboard, Vicky Cornell commissioned sculptor Nick Marras to make a life-size bronze statue of Chris, depicting him wearing “his signature boots, dog tag and long locks.” Vicky says that the statue will be her family’s gift to “the tight-knit community that gave him his start.”

Chris Cornell was found dead in May 2017 while on tour with Soundgarden. His death was later ruled a suicide by a local medical examiner.
