Stephen Colbert taking over 'Late Show' when Letterman retires

David Letterman announced last week that he’d be retiring in 2015, and today CBS has announced his replacement: Stephen Colbert! Said Colbert in an official statement:

Simply being a guest on David Letterman’s show has been a highlight of my career. I never dreamed that I would follow in his footsteps, though everyone in late night follows Dave’s lead. I’m thrilled and grateful that CBS chose me. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go grind a gap in my front teeth.

No other news has been announced yet, but tonight’s The Colbert Report — with guest Sting — should now be interesting.

New question: what will replace The Colbert Report on Comedy Central?
