Carnegie Hall’s “Steve Reich at 80” celebration is currently underway with a few special events happening over the next month or so, including the “Three Generations” at Zankel Hall this spring that Steve Reich curated, that will explore “how the language of composition changed from the mid–20th century to the present day by pivoting from serial atonal music toward a more harmonic and rhythmic style led by Reich and his peers.” Those shows are: “Three Generations: John Adams and Terry Riley” on March 30 (tickets); “Three Generations: Arvo Pärt, Philip Glass and Steve Reich” on April 6 (tickets); “Three Generations: David Lang, Julia Wolfe and Michael Gordon” on April 19 (tickets); and “Three Generations: Bryce Dessner and Nico Muhly” on April 26 (tickets). Each one has a Q&A following the performance — full details on those are below.

Additionally BrooklynVegan is offering discount tickets to the American Composers Orchestra’s “Orchestra Underground: Past Forward” at Zankel Hall on March 24 which features the premiere of a commissioned piece by Steve Reich:

Acclaimed for “consistently champion[ing] contemporary music with consistent excellence” (The New York Times), American Composers Orchestra showcases two premieres—one commissioned by Carnegie Hall—by two cutting-edge composers and a classic from Steve Reich, Tehillim (Hebrew for “psalms”). Inspired by cantillation he heard in Israel, Reich sets four psalms in an exotically scored and rhythmically invigorating work that pulses with life and is considered one of the modern master’s most thrilling compositions.

You can get $20 tickets (regularly $43 – $51) with promo code VEG26140. The code can also be used if buying tickets by phone ( 212-247-7800) or at Carnegie Hall’s box office.
