Stonefield share video off 'Far From Earth,' touring the US before Desert Daze
Melbourne’s Stonefield toured the US with their fellow Australians King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard last year, and they released their new album Far From Earth on King Gizz’s Flightless Records earlier this year. It was produced by Black Mountain‘s Stephen McBean, and like Black Mountain, it seamlessly combines psych, prog, indie rock, and heavy metal. It also features Rob Campanella (of Brian Jonestown Massacre) and Gregg Forman (Cat Power, Delta 72). It sounds very late ’60s / early ’70s, and if you’re into the tripped-out, lava lamp-conducive stuff from that era, you’re probably gonna like this too, but Stonefield deliver it with a modern production style and make it sound fresh.
They’re releasing a 7″ single for one of its tracks, “Through The Storm,” which will be backed by an extended version of another of its tracks, the sitar-aided “Broken Stone,” this fall via Greenway Records. “Through the Storm” also has a brand new video (featuring footage shot by Jenna Putnam and Tony Diaz, edited by Simon Myers), which you can watch, along with a stream of the album, below.
Stonefield were in the US earlier this year for the psychedelic Levitation festival, and it was announced today that they’ll return in October for another psych fest, California’s Desert Daze. They’ll also tour leading up to that fest.
Their tour includes three NYC shows. First, they play a release party for the new 7″ on September 29 at Baby’s All Right, where they’ll be opening for Frankie & the Witch Fingers (with whom they’re touring). BIRDS open that show as well. After that, Stonefield do a headlining two-night stand at Berlin (10/2 & 10/3). Tickets for all three shows are on sale now. All dates are listed below.
