Aiming For Enrike

stream Aiming For Enrike's new album 'Music For Working Out'

Norwegian instrumental duo Aiming for Enrike‘s last album, 2017’s Las Napalmas, was dizzying experimental math rock that I once compared to Battles, but they’re going in a much different direction on this year’s Music for Working Out, which features nine songs that seem to interpret that album title the same way ’80s workout videos did. (There’s even a song called “Don’t Hassle the Hoff.”) (There’s also a song called “Spice Girls,” though, so Aiming For Enrike venture into nostalgia for the following decade as well.) That all said, Aiming For Enrike do this kind of music in their own weird way, often figuring out how to make things sound futuristic even when they’re clearly being retro. The album officially comes out this Friday (1/10) via Pekula Records (pre-order), but first a full stream of it premieres right here.
