stream Andrew Combs cover of The Strokes' "Reptilia"

Andrew Combs is a country singer that’s always also looked outside of country for other influences (he mentioned Paul Simon as a big influence earlier on in his career), and on his upcoming 5 Covers & A Song EP, he’ll be covering some non-country acts such as The Strokes and Radiohead. He’s also taking on alt-country vet Lucinda Williams and singer/songwriters Loudon Wainwright and Blake Mills, and there’s one original song. We’re premiering his take on the Strokes classic “Reptilia.” He gives it a bit of Americana twist too and he uses horns to re-create the main guitar riff, but he keeps the singing more true to the original. It’s a cool take on a great song. Here’s what Andrew tells us about it: “This tune reminds me of New York City at night. There is a certain youthful energy that abounds in that place that is so addicting. I don’t know exactly what, word for word, Julian Casablancas was writing about, but that same energy is there in the lyrics and melody. It’s druggy and hazy and you can’t take your eye off of it.”

Listen below. The EP comes out July 27 via New West Records, and you can pre-order it here. Andrew will be on tour this summer and plays Brooklyn’s Union Pool on August 11 and tickets for that show go on sale Friday, June 8 at 10 AM. All dates are listed below.
