stream Beach Rats’ (Lifetime, Bouncing Souls, Dag Nasty) “Skins, Brains & Dubs”
Punk supergroup Beach Rats are releasing their debut EP Wasted Time on July 27 via Bridge 9 (pre-order), and after sharing opening track “Lonely For The Night,” we’re premiering a second song from the EP, “Skins, Brains, and Dubs.” The band features Lifetime vocalist Ari Katz, guitarist Brian Baker (Minor Threat, Dag Nasty, Bad Religion, and Bouncing Souls members Brian Kienlen and Pete Steinkopf, along with drummer Danny “Dubs” Windas (who this new song is presumably named after), and with Ari singing, it’s probably most similar to Lifetime’s raw melodic hardcore, but fans of any of Beach Rats’ members’ other bands should instantly dig this. It’s short, fast, and loud with no frills at all, and it rips for its entire minute and a half running time. It’s a time-tested formula, and one that the members of Beach Rats have helped define again and again throughout their careers. Beach Rats don’t mess with that formula at all, and they shouldn’t have to. Especially with punk musicians this legendary, sometimes this is all you need. Listen to the new song below.
Beach Rats are making their live debut at NJ’s Asbury Park Brewery on July 21 ($10 at the door) and playing Philly’s PhilaMOCA (7/22) the next night (tickets). Those are their only upcoming shows at the moment.
