stream Chicago band Ethers’ debut LP

Chicago’s Ethers have deep roots in the city’s garage/punk/indie scene, featuring members of Heavy Times, Outer Minds, Radar Eyes and The Runnies. With prominent use of organ, there’s echos of post-punk groups like The Clean and Swell Maps, as well as ’60s Nuggets-style psych, and the kind of indie rock you might’ve found on Merge in 1997. There’s a lot of talent and musicianship in this group — “shambolic” is not a word I’d use to describe them — and the band’s self-titled debut (order yours) has no shortage of hooks and memorable melodies. The album’s out tomorrow via Trouble in Mind but we’re premiering a stream of the whole thing. Listen below.

Ethers will soon be on tour with another Trouble In Mind act, French group En Attendant Ana, kicking things off with the two-day Trouble in Paradise fest in Chicago, and wrapping up in Memphis for Gonerfest. They’ll also play Brooklyn’s Alphaville on September 20 with Patio and Famous Logs in History also on the bill (tickets). All dates are listed, along with a stream of En Attendant Ana’s album, below.
