Lost Dog Street Band

stream Lost Dog Street Band's new album; tour starts tonight

Lost Dog Street Band is the project of primary singer/songwriter Benjamin Tod and his life partner Ashley Mae, who provides fiddle and harmony vocals. The pair met in the Nashville punk scene when they were teenagers, but with Lost Dog Street Band they make twangy alt-country, and as you can hear on their new album Weight of a Trigger, they do it pretty damn well. “I wanted to dig under the darkest impulses of humanity for this album, and that is violence, selfishness, and destruction,” Benjamin says of the new album — the band’s fifth — and you can hear that darkness coming through in the music. They’re clearly influenced by the old-timey country, bluegrass, and blues of decades past, but they turn those influences into something that feels fresh and relatable today. They cite other contemporary acts like Hurray for the Riff Raff, Tyler Childers, and Sarah Shook as influences, and I’d add that sometimes they sound a little like The Decemberists too. The album officially comes out Friday (3/29) via Anti-Corporate Music (pre-order physical or digital), but a full stream premieres right here. Listen below.

Lost Dog Street Band are also beginning a lengthy tour in their current home state of Kentucky tonight (3/28), and they’ll hit NYC’s Mercury Lounge on April 24 (tickets). That show is also with Matt Heckler (who’s opening most other dates on the tour) and The Tillers (who are opening a few other Northeast dates as well). All dates are listed below.
