Paul McCartney at Grand Central Terminal

Paul McCartney played Grand Central (pics, video, setlist)

Paul McCartney released his seventeenth studio album, Egypt Station, on Friday (9/7), and he celebrated by livestreaming a concert from NYC. The previously secret show location that Paul teased on his Jimmy Fallon appearance was Grand Central Terminal’s Vanderbilt Hall, where around 300 people attended in person (and, as you can see below, a lot more people waited outside for a chance to get in). Paul mixed beloved classics from The Beatles, Wings, and his solo career with a few songs off the new album for the setlist. During “Who Cares,” he invited two members of the audience (who were wearing “Come On To Me” and “Fuh You” shirts) onstage to talk about their experiences being bullied, and then to dance. Horn players were stationed in the middle of the crowd at points, and Paul himself went offstage to perform “Blackbird” solo in the center of the audience. See the full setlist, and check out some pictures and video from the scene in and around Grand Central, below.

La Blogotheque, known for their work on the Take Away Show video series, filmed the livestream, and it’s filled with their trademark intimate touches, like shots that lingered on small details and cameras placed a couple of rows back in the crowd.

While in NYC, Paul also released official MetroCards, which have been available at the larger vending machines and station booths at the Grand Central 42nd St subway station.

Paul heads out on his Freshen Up Tour later this month. He headlines Austin City Limits in October, then returns to the US in Spring 2019.
