Chicago’s Retirement Party debuted with 2017’s Strictly Speaking EP, and they’re set to release their first full-length, Somewhat Literate, this Friday (5/25) via Counter Intuitive Records (pre-order). It’s a much crisper, bigger sounding release than their EP, and it proves that Retirement Party are a force to be reckoned with within the pop punk and indie rock worlds. Somewhat Literate finds the middle ground between those two genres (think Joyce Manor, Swearin’, Modern Baseball, etc), and Avery Springer’s unique voice is what sets them apart from the pack of bands like this. She’s got a plainspoken, conversational delivery and tackles the anxieties of everyday life in a way where listening to Retirement Party feels like having a revealing convo with a friend. And it’s not just relatable; it’s also jam-packed with sharp, driving guitars and sugary hooks for days. It’s worth a listen, and you can now hear the whole thing before the album is officially out. We’re premiering a stream below.

Retirement Party are also touring, starting with a hometown release show on June 15 and then over a month of dates across the US including Long Island, Asbury Park, and more (you can check the band’s social media for venue info — many are house shows/DIY venues, etc). All dates are on the tour poster below.
