Spotlights Hanging By Faith

stream Spotlights' new EP, see their release show with Toby Driver

Last year, Brooklyn’s Spotlights released their debut album Seismic on Ipecac, and this Friday (6/15), they’ll release the Hanging By Faith EP (pre-order), which includes remixes of four songs from Seismic and a cover of The Cure’s “Faith.” The Cure cover sounds like Spotlights’ usual dark shoegaze style (and noticeably different from the original), while the remixes take Spotlights’ sound into totally new territory. They were done by Isis/Palms drummer Aaron Harris (who also produced Seismic), Void Manes, Kris Dirksen, and Spotlights’ own Mario Quintero, and they sort of re-imagine Spotlights’ music as instrumental, synth-heavy, darkwave-leaning electronic music. The songs were all re-titled for this EP, because, as Mario Quintero explains, “they all took on a completely new life, and totally stand on their own, as new compositions.” It’s definitely not your average remix EP, and it’s good stuff. A full stream premieres below.

Spotlights will celebrate the new EP with a hometown release show on June 30 at Saint Vitus, and that show has a great bill all around with Kayo Dot’s Toby Driver and local sludge band Somnuri (tickets). If you purchase tickets TODAY ONLY (6/13), you get a free download of the new EP.

After that, Spotlights have a few other Northeast shows, including the Hamden and Amityville stops of Pallbearer‘s tour. All dates are listed below.
