stream The Shacks’ debut album ‘Haze’ and watch a new lyric video

The Shacks Haze

You may recognize The Shacks from that iPhone commercial but they’re much more than “that band from the iPhone commercial.” We were fans since first hearing “Strange Boy” back in 2016, and now they’re set to release their debut album which very much lives up to the promise of their early singles. It’s called Haze and it drops Friday (3/30) via Big Crown Records (pre-order), and the whole thing is a very nice-sounding dose of cool, smoky dream pop with a hint of British Invasion influence. Before the album’s out, you can stream the whole thing at NPR. We’re also premiering the lyric video for “Blue And Grey,” which puts handwritten lyrics over a backdrop that changes colors between — you guessed it — blue and grey. This one kinda sounds like if Nancy Sinatra had picked something off Something Else or Village Green for her Kinks cover. Here’s what guitarist Max Shrager tells us about it:

This song was cut in the same session as ‘Birds’ and ‘Silver,’ which is a song from my solo EP ‘Thoughts Of You’. Homer Steinweiss played drums on the track, and Ben played congas. After the session, it was 4am and we were hungry, so we went to a Tortas truck somewhere in Queens that the guys knew. Ben disappeared while we were still eating our Tortas, and he came back later holding a full pound cake. The boy likes his cake.

The Shacks have a few tristate area dates coming up, including a free in-store performance and signing at NYC’s Turntable Lab on Friday (3/30), and a Haze release show at Brooklyn’s Baby’s All Right on April 4 with Holy Hive (tickets). They also have a Connecticut show with San Fermin.
