As we recently mentioned, guitar great Marc Ribot releases his new album Songs of Resistance 1942-2018 this Friday (9/14) via ANTI-, and the album features protest songs with help from Steve Earle, Meshell Ndegeocello, Justin Vivian Bond, Tift Merritt, Fay Victor, Ohene Cornelius, Sam Amidon, and Tom Waits, who takes on the Italian anti-fascist anthem “Bella Ciao.” That song is now streaming ahead of the album’s release, and it comes with a Jem Cohen-directed visual.

“I played Tom a bunch of the tunes and he immediately bonded with that one,” Ribot said. “Of course, he brings a certain gravitas to everything he does—my Italian friends say he sounds exactly like an old ‘partigiano’ (resistance fighter)!” Listen below.

As mentioned, Marc is celebrating the album with a release show at NYC’s Le Poisson Rouge on October 8 with Justin Vivian Bond, Ohene Cornelius, Domenica Fossati, and Fay Victor. Tickets are on sale.
