Stuart and Stevie of Belle & Sebastian hosting film double feature in NYC
Belle & Sebastian are releasing the second in their trio of How To Solve Our Human Problems EPs on January 19. You can listen to “I’ll Be Your Pilot” from that, as well as a stream of the first EP, below. In celebration of the second EP’s release, the band’s Stuart Murdoch and Stevie Jackson will be in NYC to host a film event at Metrograph on January 17. This “Belle & Sebastian Dream Double Feature” is subtitled “Down and Out in Paris and London” and features Joseph Losey’s 1963 film The Servant, and Francois Truffaut’s 1968 film Stolen Kisses. Stuart and Stevie provide program notes:
“It’s interesting to contrast these two films to perhaps gauge the different vibes in the two great European cities in the 1960s. Still hungover after the war, the youth and young thinking are starting to shake things up and challenge the rigid social structures that are still in place. The Paris chapter follows the fortune of Truffaut’s young hero Antoine Doinel—his carefree attitude to life, love and work still charms and amuses in 2017.” —Stuart Murdoch
