Sturgill Simpson recently made an appearance in Jim Jarmusch’s zombie flick The Dead Don’t Die, and provided a new tune for its theme song. He’s working on another film, too, in an entirely different genre: anime. Sound & Fury, from Takashi Okazaki (who wrote and illustrated Afro Samurai) and Junpei Mizusaki (director of Batman Ninja), promises to merge “American rock music with anime in a way never seen before,” and its first 90-second trailer will debut at a San Diego Comic Con panel on July 20, where Simpson, Okazaki and Mizusaki are also set to discuss the making of the project with moderator Shun Ochiai. Stay tuned for more info on that.

Sturgill also plays “Police Officer Reed” in the upcoming Queen & Slim, from director Melina Matsoukas (who also directed Beyonce’s video for “Formation,” and a couple of episodes of Aziz Ansari’s Netflix series Master of None). It’s due out in theaters on November 27, and you can watch a trailer below.
