Hamburg, Germany’s Reeperbahn Music Festival is presenting a showcase of international acts this Wednesday (6/19) at Rockwood Music Hall in NYC, as part of the 2019 edition of industry conference A2IM Indie Week. The show is free, open to the public, and will take over both Stage 1 and Stage 2 at Rockwood.

It all begins with the annual Reeperbahahn ANCHOR award jury announcement at 6pm with famed producers Tony Visconti (David Bowie, T Rex, etc) and Bob Rock (Metallica, Motley Crue, etc), AND Kate Nash. AND Peaches. All four of them are ANCHOR jurists and will be there in person to talk before a networking happy hour, and then the night of live music.

Set times HERE. More details on the music below:

Brooklyn punks Surfbort, who always put on a wild show and released Friendship Music last year via Julian Casablancas Cult Records, lead the charge of U.S. groups, along with ethereal art-pop singer Renata Zeiguer (who played BrooklynVegan’s 2018 Northside showcase).

On the German front, there’s punky/postpunky Berlin duo Gurr who released the hooky She Says EP this year and have toured with Priests, and who also play a free show at Rough Trade on Tuesday, June 18 (more info). There’s also Kiel, Germany’s anthemic Leoniden. who released their second album, Again, in 2018. You can stream Leoniden and Gurr’s records below.

Also playing: Austrian singer-songwriter Mira Lu Kovacs who also makes more rock-oriented music as Schmied’s Puls and is also part of electronic group 5K HD (who have a new single coming this week); Israeli artist ORI who makes glitchy, singer-songwriter pop; and Winnipeg, Manitoba band Yes We Mystic who make anthemic rock not unlike Arcade Fire or Patrick Watson. And DJ Clint Choi.
