Sweden’s Rome Is Not A Town released debut LP (listen)

Rome Is Not A Town

Rome Is Not A Town is an all-female punk/noise rock band hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden who formed around 2014, and put out an excellent EP last year, Careful Like You Cared. Tracks such as “Never Like That” and “Touch the Fire” burst with raw, unbridled energy, which echo the fast tempos and raging chords of Goo-era Sonic Youth. This comparison is fitting, as Thurston Moore himself has shared his adoration of the band (who he discovered via his daughter). In an interview with NME, Moore described the band’s sound as “sorta post-Riot grrrl, post-No Wave, experimental music and completely engaging from beginning to end.”

The band have  just released their debut record via Startracks, titled It’s A Dare, that’s a great showcase for the band’s noisy, chaotic style. The album builds on the qualities found on Careful Like You Cared, with thick guitars, and powerful, confrontational vocal performances. You can stream the entire album, and watch the video for lead single, “I’m In A Brand,” below.
