Swedish producer Kornel Kovacs playing US shows this month (dates & EP streams)

Kornel Kovacs

Kornel Kovacs is a Swedish electronic musician who, as he tells it, “grew up listening to his Hungarian parents’ Kraftwerk tapes while taking drum, piano and singing classes, fell in love with jungle at the age of 10 and started djing professionally three years later.” He’s one third of the Studio Barnhus label with Axel Boman and Petter Nordkvist, and that’s the label he put his Nincs EP out on this past March. Since then, he branched out from his own label and hooked up with Numbers (home to Rustie, Jamie xx and more), who released his Radio Koko EP in late June. To quote Resident Advisor:

Though his EP for Numbers isn’t a complete detour from the whimsical romanticism of previous releases, the Stockholm artist does lessen his dreamy atmospheres and zero in on a sleek, beat-focused sound. The result is four tuneful house productions that groove effortlessly as they radiate sumptuous melodies and carefree energy. In other words, a perfect summer record.

Kornel is in the US for some dates this month, including LA tonight (7/10), Arizona on Saturday (7/11) and NYC the following weekend. The NYC show happens July 19 at Output in the venue’s Panther Room with Alejandro Sab. That show is totally free.
