Swedish psych act The Presolar Sands explore thermodynamics on new single (listen)

Stockholm’s The Presolar Sounds make dark, riffy, wailing psych-rock with a clear interest in the occult. Their debut album, The Big Noise, was released this past spring, and drew inspiration from the Witch Hunts of the 17th century, and the period of mass hysteria in Sweden known as “Det Stora Oväsendet” (“The Big Noise”) where hundreds of women were assassinated for supposedly practicing witchcraft. You can stream the whole record below.

The band have just followed the album up with a new single, “The first law of thermodynamics,” a six-minute monster that draws in some doomy headbanging to their swirling psych. Say the band:

It is possible to relate to the first principle of thermodynamics when it feels that everything is perishable and nothing has an opinion. It means that energy can not be created or destroyed, but constantly transforms into something new. In principle, it is a more abstract variation of reincarnation, though it is not rooted in religion but in science. We often return to this thematic. Inquire that everything is star dust that just takes shape. Our band name is a blink to it too.

We recorded the song live together, which felt totally awesome. It made room for us to find something we have live, and also enabled the improvisation part that forms the second part of the song.

The song makes its premiere in this post and you can stream it below.
