Sylvan Esso cover Mister Rogers song “There Are Many Ways To Say I Love You”

Sylvan Esso have shared a cover of “There Are Many Ways To Say I Love You” which is a song from classic PBS children’s series Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood that host Fred Rogers wrote. It’s atypical of what Sylvan Esso normally do — no synths or samples, just acoustic guitar and Amelia Meath’s voice. It’s lovely, and kind of a holiday song too. If you need more, you can listen to that, plus video of Mister Rogers singing it on his show, below.

The song is from musical puppet tribute titled Make Believe Neighborhood, which celebrates Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood‘s 50th anniversary. Martin Dosh (drummer for Andrew Bird and others) is the musical director the production is directed by Bart Buch, and also features musical contributions from Bonnie Prince Billy, Andrew Bird and others. It will be performed February 2 – 25 at the In The Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre in Minneapolis, and here’s the synopsis:

Make Believe Neighborhood will use puppets, music, and visual imagery to explore the life and work of Fred Rogers, the extraordinary educator, puppeteer, composer, author, activist and creator of the children’s television show, Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood. This production will also explore the lives of extraordinary neighbors in the theatre’s own Phillips neighborhood, who work to create a better world.

Tickets for Make Believe Neighborhood are on sale now.

Having spent much of 2017 touring their second album What Now?, Sylvan Esso will not be slowing down in 2018, and already have shows scheduled through August (nothing in NYC currently). All dates are listed below.
