Majical Cloudz @ Warm Up - 7/27/13
The 2013 Warm Up summer concert series at MoMA PS1 continued on Saturday (7/27) with UK acid house/techno legend A Guy Called Gerald, Montreal indie pop duo Majical Cloudz, Ben UFO, Daniel Avery, and Roosevelt. It wasn't as hot as some of the other Warm Ups have been, but the party wall installation and indoor cafe were still great ways to get out of the sun if you needed to. Of the mostly dance-y lineup, Majical Cloudz were really the only ones who drastically changed the tempo for the day, and they acknowledged that they were kind of killing the buzz, but that didn't stop them from continuing to engage the crowd (from within the crowd at times). Pictures from last Saturday's Warm Up are in this post.
Headliner A Guy Called Gerald played again later (much later) that same night at Cameo in Williamsburg. Warm Up continues this Saturday (8/3) with Marcellus Pittman, Jackmaster, Dre Skull, Ratking, and Rizzla. Tickets for all remaining Warm Ups are on sale now.

As mentioned, UK acid house/techno legend A Guy Called Gerald -- whose 1988 single "Voodoo Ray" was a massive hit in the UK and Europe -- will be in town next weekend for MoMA PS1's Warm Up (7/27), where he'll performing on a bill that also includes Ben UFO, Majical Cloudz, Daniel Avery, and Roosevelt. Tickets are still available.
If you'd rather catch AGCG somewhere slightly less sweaty (or without the posibility of thunderstorms), that night A Guy Called Gerald will play late show at Cameo (doors at midnight). Turtle Bugg and Evan Michael are also on the bill. Tickets are $10 but you can get reduced $7 admission before 1 AM with RSVP.
Flyer for A Guy Called Gerald's Cameo show and "Voodoo Ray" video are below.
