A Touch of Class
A Touch of Class

Tonight (Friday April 11th) is the 2 year anniversary of the electro-meets-rock rager - Ruff Club at the Annex. There is a pretty long list of deejays/bands on the flyer (see below), but I have to call attention to A Touch of Class. ATOC is Oliver Stumm and Dominique Clausen. They are based out of New York and run an electronic/dance label by the same name, home to several New York Bands such as the Ones and Services. Oliver and Domie have also done numerous remixes for many diverse artists, everyone from the Gossip to the Scissor Sisters to Joss Stone.

When it comes to deejaying, their sets are all over the place in the best way possible. I was truly blown away when I saw them at PS1 this past summer. They went from 45 minutes of old school, funky disco to everyone from Mr. Oizo to the Police. Tracks with nothing in common seemed like they were always meant to be played together. Not dancing was not an option. Strongly recommended

umbrellaAs you already know, The Decemberists are playing two shows at the new Bowery Presents venue Terminal 5 here in NYC. Those are actually just two dates from a much larger fall tour that has them playing two nights at every venue in every town (that they're playing in) - way more multiple-night stints than Colin Meloy's hero Morrissey (dumb comparison, I know), but there's a catch:

With their latest jaunt - dubbed "The Long and Short of It" and launching October 28th in Chicago - they'll hit 13 cities, playing at least two nights in each market. "Long" evenings will focus on the band's epic, progressive compositions. "Short" nights (while no shorter in set length, we promise) will highlight their more succinct, pop-leaning material. Laura Veirs, who guests on The Decemberists' current album, The Crane Wife, will be the main supporting act.
So you kind of have to go to both nights to get it all, which is kind of cool. Maybe pricy? Check the pre-sale on Saturday at noon EST to find out (and, get this - to get one of "A limited number of custom pre-sale tickets created by Decemberists illustrator Carson Ellis"). Collectible tickets. There's a catch too actually:
For the pre-sale, fans must purchase both a "long" and a "short" night ticket, but they'll receive a $10 discount. In markets with an odd number of dates, tickets for the final date will be sold separately. Fans who purchase pre-sale tickets will receive a free poster with their order.
General ticket on-sale begins September 7.

But wait, there's more: Decemberists REMIXES!

"The Perfect Crime #2," The Decemberists' current single, is climbing the charts at AAA radio, where it's already in the Top 20. On September 25th, Capitol Music Group will release The Perfect Crime #2 EP featuring remixes by A Touch of Class, Diplo and Junior Boys as well as "The Perfect Crime #2.5.1," a version of the song that was heretofore unavailable commercially. (See below for the track listing.) The EP will be available digitally at all DSPs and on vinyl at select independent retail stores (go to http://www.thinkindie.com to find out where).
