ATO Records are throwing a CMJ showcase on Friday (10/16) at Knitting Factory. It's an afternoon show (3 PM start) and it's totally FREE with priority going to badgeholders if the venue hits capacity.
The lineup was initially announced with Jessica Lea Mayfield, Joseph, Margaret Glaspy and "very special guest" headliners but it's now revealed that those headliners are Thunderbitch, the other band of Alabama Shakes singer Brittany Howard. It's a very rare show for Thunderbitch (it follows a one-off from back in 2012) and a much smaller venue for Brittany Howard than the ones she's been playing with Alabama Shakes.
Caitlin Rose is also listed on CMJ's website, but she is no longer playing the Brooklyn show.
BV readers might be familiar with Jessica Lea Mayfield, but recent ATO signees Joseph and Margaret Glaspy may be new to you. NYC-via-California singer Margaret Glaspy's planning to release her debut album in the spring of 2016, and as the two demos she's posted show, she makes raw early '70s-inspired folk. Joseph, meanwhile, is a trio of sisters from the Pacific Northwest who make harmony-laden folk, and they're also planning their debut album for spring/summer 2016. You can watch Joseph's recent ATO session video and stream Margaret's demos below.
Caitlin Rose, the newest signee to ATO Records is on a tour that hits Mercury Lounge on Saturday (8/20) with Luke Rathborne. Tickets are still available and we're also giving away a pair of tickets to the show. Details on how to win are below.
Caitlin's most recent album, Own Side Now, was released earlier this year. You can watch videos of "Own Side" and "Shanghai Cigarettes" below and download MP3s of the tracks above.

Doveman, who often plays with both Justin Bond and Martha Wainwright, has four more upcoming salon shows scheduled at Le Poisson Rouge. Last month (after he was joined by Rufus Wainwright and Sean Lennon at the West Village venue) we mentioned that he plays the venue again on June 24. Since then, Lisa Hannigan has been added as an announced guest. Tickets are still on sale. Doveman also plays on July 29 (tickets), September 23 (tickets), and October 28 (tickets), though no guests have been announced for the new shows yet. You can also catch Doveman at a free show at Prospect Park with Junip and The Books on June 17.
Lisa Hannigan is currently on her own tour right now in her home country of Ireland. The LPR show with Doveman is one of a few she'll play in North America later this month around her appearance at Atlantic City's Dave Matthews Band Caravan Fest (not to be confused with the same scary fest that is hitting Governors Island later in the summer with a different lineup). Right before LPR, she plays NYC-area shows at Rockwood Music Hall on June 21 and 22 and Maxwell's on June 23. All three sold out quickly, so hopfully she comes back soon. She also hits Boston on the trip.
Lisa, who first came to fame via playing with Damien Rice, released her debut, Mercury Prize-nominated record Sea Sew in 2008. She's releasing the followup this fall on Dave's ATO Records (who this week released the new record by Dawes). Lisa's new LP is called Passenger, and was "recorded over a week at Brynderwyn Studios in North Wales by Grammy-winning producer Joe Henry (Solomon Burke, Allen Toussaint, Ramblin Jack Elliot) and engineer Ryan Freeland (Ray LaMontagne)."

Radiohead's labelmate Mike Doughty is playing a show at Joe's Pub tonight and tomorrow. That seems fitting until you remember that the ex-Soul Coughing frontman kind of blew up since being taken under Dave Matthews' wing (or at least that's how I think of it). Both shows are sold out. Luckily (for those who aren't embarrassed to go to a show that is even remotely associated with Dave Matthews), I have a pair of tickets to give away to tomorrow's show. To win, e-mail BVCONTESTS@HOTMAIL.COM (subject: Doughty), let me know what the last show you saw was, and include your first and last name. I'll pick one winner randomly tonight, and contact them. Mike's new album Golden Delicious will be released by ATO Records on Feb 19th 2008. A new song is streaming at his MySpace, and more tour dates are at his site.
