After a tease almost exactly a year ago, Hot Snakes are officially back in business with a scheduled appearance at ATP's Nightmare Before Christmas! The previously mentioned UK festival goes down at Butlins Holiday Centre in Minehead from 12/9 - 12/11 and features names that range from No Age to Archers of Loaf to Theo Parrish. Tickets are on sale. Hot Snakes will appear on the Les Savy Fav-curated day, with the other two days curated by Battles and Caribou (who will all perform at the festival). Full lineup is below.
So far, the single UK date is the only Hot Snakes date scheduled, but East Coast-ers look out....

As previously mentioned, Battles have been in the studio working on their follow-up to 2007's Mirrored. The new album, titled Gloss Drop, is set to be released June 7 on Warp and features an array of guests including Kazu Makino of Blonde Redhead, Gary Numan, Yamantaka Eye of Boredoms, and Matias Aguayo. Perhaps they'll help fill the void caused by the departure of guitarist/vocalist Tyondai Braxton. You can preorder the album here. Battles have also announced an international tour in support of the album including April 27 at Le Poisson Rouge. All dates are listed below.
Although Tyondai Braxton will not be performing with them, as mentioned, he will be performing dates with the Wordless Music Orchestra including one at NYC's Alice Tully Hall this Monday, March 7th.
Battles are also co-curating, with Caribou and Les Savy Fav, ATP Nightmare Before Christmas which is happening in the UK this December. Tickets go on sale 3/3 at 5 PM. In other Caribou related news, he is planning a split vinyl with Four Tet. Listen to each artist's contribution below.
Helmet, the band previous home to Battles drummer John Stanier, also plays this month as part of the Metalliance Tour with Saint Vitus, Crowbar, Red Fang, Howl, The Atlas Moth, and Kylesa. That hits Irving Plaza on March 25th.
All Battles dates, tracklisting, and MP3 streams below...

2 of these men will share a stage in the New Year (more)

Before you really do the math, the idea is staggering: one member of Neurosis, one member of Saint Vitus, half of Shrinebuilder, one member of The Hidden Hand, and one member of Place of Skulls will all bless one stage. Of course the above lineup is really just projects associated with two men, Scott Kelly & Scott "Wino" Weinrich, and they will hit the road for a string of acoustic dates in the new year including Mercury Lounge in NYC on February 10th with Man's Gin. Tickets go on AMEX presale on Wednesday, 12/8 at noon, with regular sale hitting at noon on Friday.
Besides these acoustic-only dates, Wino has only one show on his calendar and that's with Scott Kelly at Roadburn 2011 as part of Shrinebulder. Scott Kelly has plenty of other dates though, as Neurosis will play shows on the West Coast around the New Year and are also scheduled to play Maryland Deathfest 2011. All tour dates are below.
Neurosis played ATP's The Nightmare before Christmas over the weekend along with the reunited Godspeed You! Black Emperor. It was Godspeed's first reunion show and it went on despite concerns about the weather. NYC has to wait until March, but we get five shows. Updated dates below.

If there's one thing that ATP is good at, it's a reunion. One gaze through the ATP Nightmare Before Christmas 2008 lineup and it becomes evident that the Melvins and Mike Patton haven't let us down with the addition of Boss Hog. The Jon Spencer/Cristina Martinez (husband-wife) project (formed post-Pussy Galore and pre-Blues Explosion) will be, though technically not broken up, playing their first gig in over seven years.
A little history, courtesy the world's most accurate online encyclopedia:
Boss Hog was formed in 1989, as something of an accidental side project, when Jon and Cristina were told of a last minute vacancy on the bill at the influential New York punk club CBGB's. The pair put together a group of musicians from members of The Honeymoon Killers and Unsane, along with Kurt Wolf from Pussy Galore. The gig is reported to have been an underground sensation in New York, not least because Cristina performed the whole show naked. The ATP gig is in Minehead on December 5th, and Boss Hog have another UK show scheduled for December 8th at The Luminaire in London (tickets here, overseas folk), BUT FIRST, Boss Hog will play a show at Maxwell's in Hoboken on December 3rd (tickets are on sale), and we also hear they may be playing a BUST magazine (holiday?) party at Bowery Ballroom in NYC on December 17th.The same line-up of Spencer, Martinez, Charlie Ondras, Jerry Teel and Kurt Wolf recorded the mini-album Drinkin', Lechin' & Lyin' for the record label Amphetamine Reptile in 1989. Martinez continued the sexual notoriety by appearing on the cover naked save for thigh-length black leather stilletto boots and arm-length black leather gloves.
Jon Spencer has also been keeping busy lately with his band Heavy Trash. They played a few NYC shows back in August. We're not sure what else Christina is up to. All Boss Hog dates and a video below...
