As mentioned, Saturday Night Live will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a three-hour live special on February 15 (which is Sunday, by the way). Former castmember Eddie Murphy, who hasn't appeared on the show (which he doesn't have especially fond memories of) since 1984, will return for the special which also features a cavalcade of other past castmembers: Chevy Chase, Jimmy Fallon, Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, Martin Short, Tina Fey, Molly Shannon, Mike Myers, Andy Samberg, Bill Murray, Amy Poehler, Dana Carvey, Kristen Wiig, Dan Aykroyd, Chris Rock, Garrett Morris, and Maya Rudolph.
There will aslo be lots of former SNL hosts as well, including Five Timers Club members Tom Hanks, Alec Baldwin, Paul Simon, Justin Timberlake, Christopher Walken, and Steve Martin, plus Emma Stone, John Hamm, Derek Jeter, Melissa McCarthy, Jerry Seinfeld, Robert De Niro, Jack Nicholson, Jim Carrey, Peyton Manning, Betty White and many more yet to be announced.
In addition to Timberlake and Simon, other musicians appearing on SNL 40 will be Kanye West, Paul McCartney, and Taylor Swift. The Saturday Night Live Special runs from 8 - 11 PM on 2/15. You can watch a couple of promos for the special below.
And in related news, Eddie Murphy, who has dabbled in music in the past, having scored a hit in 1985 with the Rick James-produced "Party All the Time," recently released a reggae single "Oh Jah" which you can stream below. It's not his first dip into the genre -- he released a single with Snoop Lion in 2013 and collaborated with Shabba Ranks in 1993.
This past week's SNL featured D'Angelo.

I have got a WICKED soft-spot in my soul for the great Tenacious D. Back in the day when I was still a young pup exploring the world of comedy at large, a friend of mine gave me a VHS tape (recorded in EP mode) that featured David Cross' special The Pride is Back as well as every single episode of the HBO Tenacious D television series. I was familiar with Jack Black from other things, but this series blew my mind apart into about eighteen different piles of pinkish green sludge. To this day (and I have been and will continue to be raked over the coals for this analogy) I think Jack Black is a phenomenal singer who brings to mind someone like the great Mike Patton. Their zeal for the majesty of rock and the hilarious adventures he and the cherubic Kyle Gass got into made the series an instant fave of yours truly.
Over the years, The D has given us great music, great videos, great tours, and great laughs. But now, they are giving us the mother of all gifts: FESTIVAL SUPREME! Curated by (and featuring) Tenacious D, Festival Supreme is a one day comedy/music fest taking place on the Santa Monica Pier in California on Saturday October 19, 2013. This rain-or-shine, nearly seven-hour event features a line-up that is so incredible that I had to read it like 7 times. Attendees will thrill to the comedy and music of Tim and Eric, The Mr. Show Experience(!), The Mighty Boosh, Sarah Silverman, Zach Galifianakis, Adam Sandler, The Gregory Brothers (aka the Autotune the News guys), Tig Notaro, Hannibal Buress, Eric Idle, Fred Armisen, Princess (Maya Rudolph and Gretchen Lieberum), Will Forte, Demetri Martin, Dynasty Handbag, Reggie Watts, Beardyman, Craig Robinson and the Nasty Delicious, Garfunkel & Oates, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, Neil Hamburger Band, The Abe Lincoln Story, Nancy and Beth (Megan Mullally and Stephanie Hunt), and, of-fuckin-course, Tenacious D. I've included the list below for those of you who see things better visually as a list.
Pre-sale tickets will be available on Wednesday, June 12 at 10 AM PST (password is SUPREME). Tickets will go on sale to the general public at 10am PST on Friday, June 14 at 10 AM PST. General admission tickets are $99 (plus fees), and VIP tickets are $250 (plus fees). The Stones setup @ Barclays Center (via BrooklynVegan Instagram)
The Rolling Stones are playing Barclays Center in Brooklyn tonight (did you get a ticket?), and as wished/hoped/rumored, they were in fact added to the much-scalped Hurricane Sandy Benefit happening at Madison Square Garden on 12/12, a show that will be very "widely distributed"...
The producers of "12-12-12" announced today that the concert at Madison Square Garden on December 12, 2012, at 7:30 PM (ET) to aid the victims of Hurricane Sandy, will have unprecedented and historic global distribution, similar to that of the Superbowl, the Academy Awards®, and the Grammys®.The Stones join the all-star line-up that already included Bon Jovi, Eric Clapton, Dave Grohl, Billy Joel, Alicia Keys, Chris Martin, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Roger Waters, Eddie Vedder, Kanye West, The Who and Paul McCartney.
Nearly 2 billion people worldwide will be able to access "12-12-12" on television, radio and the internet. The concert, presented by Chase, will be available to all 114 million television households in the US and to more than 400 million television households outside the country via networks and feeds in North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia.
Further elevating this event to its historic levels of distribution is live streaming on the largest online video services in the world, including YouTube, AOL, Yahoo, Hulu, and others. Combined, these video streaming services reach over 1.4 billion monthly unique users worldwide.
In addition, Clear Channel Media and Entertainment, with its 239 million monthly listeners and more than 48 million monthly digital uniques, will broadcast the concert live on its radio stations across the country, and will also video stream live on iHeartRadio, Clear Channel's digital radio service, and across the websites and Facebook pages of its 850 stations.

Before achieving fame and glory as a leading Pop artist, Andy Warhol was a successful commercial artist who contributed illustrations to women's magazines and designed windows and promotional materials for department stores. Among his clients was Tiffany & Co., for whom he created a series of designs for holiday greeting cards. The whimsical drawings and paintings he produced for Tiffany's Christmas cards are the subject of this charming gift book.A Christmas card by Andy Warhol above. Wilco came to NYC this week to play a big show at Keyspan Park in Coney Island (7/13). That show also featured many special guests including Leslie Feist who most likely flew in mainly to join Wilco for their appearance on the David Letterman show which aired last night (7/14), but was recorded yesterday afternoon which gave Jeff Tweedy plenty of time to make it over to the movie screening (which he was spotted at). DOWNLOAD: Adam Sandler - Hanukkah Song (MP3)
Hanukkah is just a couple of days away, which, most excitingly, means vegan latkes and eight Yo La Tengo shows at Maxwell's with secret openers, comedians and special guests. Last year it was The New Pornographers, Jim James, Mark Arm, Alex Chilton, Versus, The dB's, The Clean, and many others. Who will be the openers this year? All we really know is that comedian Todd Barry will be there on the final night (December 28th). We also know that The Feelies will NOT be opening one of the Hoboken Hanukkah shows (they're opening New Years Eve). Someone commented that they heard She & Him are opening one. I have no idea if that's true. I do have some guesses though.
I would put money on Titus Andronicus (NJXL) as an opener. My other guesses for guests and/or openers are Quasi, Ted Leo, NY Dolls and/or David Johansen, The Fleshtones, AC Newman, The A-Bones, Lou Reed, Endless Boogie, Britt Daniel, Will Sheff, Department of Eagles, Charles Bissell, and Jennifer O'Connor. I expect to be wrong about all or most of those. There will also be an assortment of comedians that may or may not include Jon Benjamin, Jon Glaser, Eugene Mirman, David Cross, John Oliver, Bill Murray and Fred Armisen. Stay tuned for updates, and please comment with your own guesses and/or facts.
Tickets are completely sold out for all eight Yo La Tengo shows. Matisyahu unfortunately can not say the same about his Hanukkah run at Webster Hall and Music Hall of Williamsburg. And his loss is your (or your little sister's or your mom's or maybe nobody you know's) gain. Get $5.00 off tickets by using the code "Light" when buying at Ticketmaster. I also have a few pairs to giveaway to the Matisyahu show of your choice (remember there are eight different openers too).
For a ton of other Hanukkah event options, see HERE. Details on winning Matisyahiu tix below....
