Frankie Rose

Frankie Rose releases Interstellar this month (2/21) and as Bill points out, she's left the garage pop of her debut behind in favor of synthy, jangly pop. It's a huge step up from her last album and you can stream the entire thing at SPIN. She plays a record release show for the album at Knitting Factory on February 21 with Dive and Night Manager.

The new album from Dr. Dog, Be The Void, is out this week (2/7) and streaming at Conan O'Brien's website Team Coco. Watch the video of their performance on the show last night (2/8) below. Also, don't forget to grab your tickets for their Terminal 5 show on 3/23 while they're still available. More tour dates HERE.

Islands' new album, A Sleep & A Forgetting, is due out February 14 via ANTI- and you can stream the entire thing below. Their tour in support of it hits NYC on 2/25 at LPR. Tickets are still available.

Air's new album, Le Voyage Dans La Lune, which features a collaboration with Beach House's Victoria Legrand, and as mentioned is a soundtrack, is out this week and streaming in full on NPR.

It's not exactly an album, but Fucked Up's 15+ minute "Year of the Tiger" single which features Jim Jarmusch, Austra, and Annie-Claude DeschĂȘnes of Duchess Says, can be streamed below.

Kyle Rapps

Make sure and get to Southpaw early tomorrow (2/9, tickets), because in addition to great performances from favorites like Action Bronson and Mr. MFN eXquire, you'll be able to catch a set from Kyle Rapps. The New Jersey MC made waves last year with his Re-Edutainment EP (clearly a tip of the cap to the Blast Master) but more recently dropped On Air:

The eight-track mixtape showcases a new sound for Kyle, with the NYC-based emcee choosing to flip samples from French electro duo Air throughout.

Kyle also threw KRS-One, Homeboy Sandman, and Talib Kweli into the mix, the latter of whom was featured on the EP's first single, "Universe Traveler.

Kyle Rapps recently starred in a new video for "Bully" from Re-Edutainment, which makes its debut in this post. Check it out below alongside a video for "Universe Traveler" (Air Redux) with Talib Kweli from that On Air mixtape. Download the entire On Air mixtape at Sendspace.

In related news, Kyle Rapps may be revving up the sampler again, as Air just released their latest LP Le Voyage Dans La Lune, a score to the 1902 film of the same name. Check out a clip from the film, with Air's music as the soundtrack, below.

All videos and some streams are below, and check out Kyle Rapps tomorrow at one of the last shows at Southpaw.

Miami Herald: What can we expect from your show?
Air's JB Dunckel: The more we play, the less we are onstage -- we'll be three onstage, and last time we were five. We've worked on new designs for the video screen, and have new lights and new tracks, too.

MH: What are your respective roles when you perform?
JB: Nicolas is more into bass and guitar and vocoder, and I am more into keyboards and singing.

MH: Do you enjoy touring?
JB: There are some magic moments, but it's a lot of waiting and traveling. I enjoy playing onstage, of course, but I must say that sometimes...for example, when you cross Transylvania in a bus and it's snowing outside and you stay 23 hours on the bus without eating anything, it's not fun.

French duo Air are joined by Badly Drawn Boy drummer Alex Thomas on their current North American tour, which kicked off Saturday (3/13) in Miami.

They play Friday, March 19th at Terminal 5 with AM. Tickets are sold out (not totally surprising considering that it's their first US tour in 3 years), but there's always Craigslist.

They're touring in support of their new record, Love 2, and they recently released an iPhone app, Love by AIR (iTunes), which is "five different pages or 'soundscapes,' [that allow you to] transform the musical experience real-time by sampling and processing ambient sounds, your own voice and more into Air's own music. You can also record your own messages or performances with the application, and share your own unique productions of Air's music with friends and more." Their video for the song "So Light Is Her Footfall" and a preview trailer for the tour are is posted below...

Air

Following the October release of their fifth studio album Love 2, French electronic pop duo AIR (Nicolas Godin and JB Dunckel) return to the U.S. for their first live shows in three years....AIR is preparing for the first of several U.S. trips, the first of which will be a traditional tour showcasing the breadth of their catalog and re-interpretations of new songs from the "Love 2" album. For the first time on these dates, the band will be performing their live show as an intimate three-piece with Godin and Dunckel taking on full instrumental and vocal duties. This follows a successful short tour of China and the Far East in late 2008, where they experimented with a core of three musicians and the current live set took shape.

For the North American dates, AIR will be joined by British drummer/percussionist Alex Thomas (Bat For Lashes, Badly Drawn Boy) and guest opening act will be AM, a revered multi-instrumentalist from Los Angeles with a flare for distilling global music influences into his own unique and infectious pop confections.

Air's North American tour kicks off in Miami on March 13th and hits NYC on Friday, March 19th, when the band plays Terminal 5. Tickets go on sale Friday at noon. There's a fanclub pre-sale Thursday at 10am for those on Air's mailing list (which you can sign up for on their site).

All tour dates and videos for Love 2's first two singles are below...

Air @ the Theater @ MSG, NYC - May 10, 2007 (CRED)
AirAir

I don't get what the Tribeca Film Festival (a real festival that ended on May 6th) has to do with the High Line Festival (which started on May 9th, and is just a bunch of concerts and a few movies), but OK (via Gawker).

Becca went to see Air and TV on the Radio at the Theater at MSG last night, and didn't even realize it was part of the "The High Line Festival". The Music Snobbery guy knew full well what he was getting in to. According to Steve in the comments, TV on the Radio played just six songs (acoustic). I took last night off.
