A Place to Bury Strangers

"A Place To Bury Strangers release their sophomore album, "Exploding Head" via Mute October 6, 2009. The band had one simple goal during the recording process: "The original idea," says vocalist/guitarist Oliver Ackermann, "was to create the craziest, most f'ed-up recording ever."

The result is 43 mesmerizing minutes of pain as pleasure. You'll be checking the levels on your living room stereo from the moment "It Is Nothing" pulls everyone in earshot through a vortex of groove-locked rhythms and back-spun power chords (hammered out by drummer Jay Space and bassist Jono MOFO)."

Full tracklist for the new album is below.

On October 4th (two days before the album comes out), APTBS will kick off a tour in Philadelphia that lasts through October 30th. They'll make a hometown stop at Bowery Ballroom on October 29th with Dead Confederate and All the Saints. Their last hometown stop was this past Saturday at the Siren Music Festival in Coney Island. More pictures from that show with all tour dates (and all opener information), below...

All the Saints

"After Wye Oak I made my to the Bowery ballroom where a band called All the Saints played as one of the tightest bands of the week. They were an undoubtedly talented trio, however, there was nothing to really draw you in the way that Wye Oak or other bands had throughout the week." [kevchino @ a different ATS show]
Starfucker (by Chris La Putt)
Starfucker
"Starfucker was my "surprise" band for CMJ. I hadn't really intended to catch them, but they surprised me in their gravitas and their energy. All too often lo-fi also means low-impact, low fiber, and low-milage. Starfucker attacked the crowd, distributing nerd-glasses and their strange brand of man-boy love. Their shameless affection was devoured and rows of ironic ballcaps bobbed bounced and gyrated while new fans gripped fresh copies of Starfuckers Burning Up pink 7-inch in their sweaty hands. They are undoubtedly the best band ever to be named after an obscure censored Rolling Stones song." [Stranded in Stereo at another SF show]
Though seeing parts of both All the Saints and Starfucker required running up and down Knitting Factory's two flights of stairs, they, combined, were a great way to kick off the BrooklynVegan day party on Saturday (10/25). Starfucker was especially a good intro for the dancier portion of the day that climaxed with an excellent set by Little Boots. More pictures of the first two bands on the Saturday bill, below...

Starfucker

"STARFUCKER is an indie supergroup consisting Sexton Blake's Johh Hodges, Junkface's Ryan Biornstad, and Mr. Fredrick's Shawn Glassford. It's poppy, it's psych, it's fun, it's brilliant...it's like they went to see Rocky Horror and decided live by the "Don't Dream It, Be It Moral" message." [iHeartComix]

All the SAints

"No, Reggie Bush and Drew Brees don't have record deals, and All Saints haven't modified their name for a reunion. All the Saints are a muscular psych trio from Atlanta (via Alabama), and they're also the newest members of the Touch and Go family." [Pitchfork]
