Night Birds @ Asbury Lanes, 7/13/2013
Last weekend Night Birds played some seriously packed and sweaty shows to celebrate the release of their scorching new record, Born to Die in Suburbia. People turned out and the boys didn't disappoint, shredding through a mix of classics as well as a bunch off the new album. They were joined by Canadian punks Omegas for all the shows, with Altered Boys, Paranoias, Give and Nuclear Santa Claust all joining on for different dates.
The weekend of shows kicked off on Thursday night (July 11), when the band played a full house in Philadelphia. The show went down in what was basically a kitchen, and Night Birds singer Brian admonished the crowd, "You should be grateful these people throw such awesome shows in their house, I don't even let people in my kitchen with their shoes on." The next night (July 12) brought the Birds to Brooklyn where Chris Gethard hosted the sweaty evening at Death by Audio. They closed the weekend out with a rowdy show at Asbury Lanes in New Jersey on July 13. Live video from that show is in this post.
Night Birds are playing three shows with fellow Grave Mistake labelmates Red Dons (from whom we just premiered a track) coming up, and next month they tour with the legendary Zero Boys, hitting Europa in Brooklyn on August 29 (tickets).
Full tour dates are listed, along with the Asbury Lanes video, LP stream and pictures from some of the openers on the tour, below.

For an outsider, Tear it Up and Friends don't exactly seem like the best match for bandmates. Yet here's Pagan Rituals to prove them wrong. The gothic post-punk band, whose members have also been in Dead Nation, Kissing is a Crime, and Splitting Headache, have released a trio of tracks to the internet already, two of which will appear on on the new band's forthcoming debut 7". Look for the band to gig as well, playing their first NYC area dates on May 18th at Acheron with Altered Boys and Paranoias (tickets), and May 19 at Big Snow Buffalo Lodge with Spires, Shilpa Ray and Toons.
Streams of Pagan Rituals tracks are below...

July 4 isn't till Wednesday but you can catch fireworks -- the sonic kind -- at The Acheron in Bushwick, Brooklyn (57 Waterbury St) in the days leading up to and including Independence Day, with three punk shows in a row occupying an otherwise dry spell of NYC hardcore/metal.
It begins tonight (7/2) with a record release show/European tour kickoff for NYC wildmen Crazy Spirit. The band, who will be joined by Smart Cops (from Italy!), Warthog (formerly Chain Wallet, ex-The Men, demo here) and Deformity, is celebrating their new self-titled LP out now via Toxic State. Order yours now, but try before you buy. Video and the flyer are below.
Tomorrow night (7/3) will feature headliners Deadly Reign, which features members of World Burns to Death, Century of War, Scarred for Life, Kegcharge and more. Joining the Austin band will be supporting acts Broken, Trenchgrinder and Zatsuon.
Last but not least, Brown Sugar will head up a five band benefit for Brandworkers on Independence Day (7/4), an organization who's goal is "protecting and advancing the rights of retail and food employees." The great Creem will join said bill, along with Deformity, Death Camp and Altered Boys.
Flyers, videos and streams of some of the bands are below.
