The Scandals at Irving Plaza in July (more by Vladislav Grach)
Upstart Fest, "The Northeast's Biggest and Best Punk Rock Party," is returning for its third year to multiple Northeast cities this month. The NYC stop happens in Brooklyn on September 15 at Knitting Factory with a ton of bands in the Rancid/Social Distortion school of punk 'n' roll including The Scandals (who we wrote about here), Koffin Kats, Turbo AC's, New Red Scare, Hudson Falcons, Svetlanas, The Jukebox Romantics, Lost In Society, Fort Street, and Done With You. Tickets for that show are on sale now. You can see all stops Upstart Fest makes, including Asbury Park, Albany, New London, and Poughkeepsie, on the flyer below. Lineups slightly vary by city.
In related news, the same people who are putting on Upstart Fest (Candy Apple Red Productions) are presenting the fourth annual benefit for Tuesday's Children (a not for profit foundation for children orphaned or directly affected by 9/11) in NYC on September 27 at Don Pedro's with five punk bands: Tied For Last, Kid Nichols, INCIRCLES, Robot Death Kites, and Poor Lily. Show flyer below.
This Sunday (11/11) is the third-annual Tinderbox Music Festival which "powerful, diverse, and innovative female artists and female-fronted bands." We already mentioned that the line-up includes headliners Cocorosie but will also feature Jean Grae (who playes the Hurricane Sandy benefit at Knitting Factory on Thursday), Selebrities, Lili Haydn, Computer Magic, Hard Nips and more. Full line-up, which takes over all three stages at Webster Hall, is below.
Like the two years past, Tinderbox fest goes to support the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls Girls Write Now, and the Tinderbox Songwriting Workshop, but this year part of the net proceeds will go to New York Cares helping with Hurricane Sandy disaster relief. Tickets ($25) are still available. We're also giving a pair of tickets away and details on how to enter are below.
The Fest is back for round 11 (!) adding bands from across the spectrum of punk rock for the multi-day Gainesville, Florida extravaganza. The Fest announced its initial lineup earlier this month but has doubled that number, bringing the total tally to a whopping 217, and there are more to go! The lineup includes Lagwagon, Naked Raygun, Baroness, Red Fang, Off with Their Heads, Torche, Valient Thorr, 7 Seconds, F.Y.P., Braid, Titus Andronicus, Toys That Kill, Underground Railroad to Candyland, Frank Turner and many more (see below). Tickets are now on sale (and sold out quick last year).
Full lineup is below, expect to see some surprises at The Fest as well; Sleepytime Trio reunited there last year.
