Nirvana

The Rock and Hall of Fame 2014 nominees were announced this past October, and now the inductees have been announced. Rolling Stone reports that Nirvana, Kiss, Peter Gabriel, Hall and Oates, Cat Stevens and Linda Ronstadt will all now be rock hall of famers. Additionally, The E Street Band will be presented with the Award for Musical Excellence, and Brian Epstein (Beatles manager) and Andrew Loog Oldham (original Rolling Stones manager) will both receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award for non-performers.

The induction ceremony takes place in Brooklyn on April 10 at Barclays Center, yet another high profile event happening at the new arena which also hosted the MTV Video Music Awards this year and which just announced a big show with Red Hot Chili Peppers. Tickets will be available in January, and it will air on HBO in May.

Nirvana's MTV Unplugged performance celebrated its 20th anniversary over the weekend. Watch that in full below...

NYSC

The UK/NYC music industry conference/concert known as New York Sound City (as opposed to Dave Grohl's Sound City documentary/concert that just happened) will return this year, happening March 11, 2012 at Knitting Factory. It's a diverse line-up (and not all from the UK) with appearances by Britrockers The Enemy, the danceable pop of Reverend & the Makers; Polish Pop Idol winner Brodka, and Liverpool bands The Tea Street Band, KOF, and The Verdict. Tickets are $20 and on sale now. Reverend & The Makers, The Enemy and Brodka will all be heading to SXSW immediately after.

The strong Liverpool showing reflects Sound City's origins, and you may remember The La's were supposed to headline the event last year but cancelled. As for the music industry side of New York Sound City, it's happening the same day at The Wythe Hotel and speakers include onetime Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham, punk chronicler Danny Fields and hip hop artist Monie Love. And they'll be talking about:

The central theme of the New York Sound City will be the notion of British Invasion - how the relationship between New York and Liverpool, two great ports and hotbeds of music and creativity have shaped popular music for generations. A series of panels and seminars examining how the UK has consistently re-interpreted, re-invented and re-packaged subversive US music and culture and successfully sold it back to the American mass market.
More info on the industry conference is here and song streams from many of the bands/artists playing are below.

Vashti Bunyan

Legendary UK folkie Vasthi Bunyan will be appearing at 92YTribeca in NYC for a live performance on Friday, October 16th, and with director Kieran Evans for two screenings of the documantary Vashti Bunyan: From Here To Before on October 16th and 17th. Tickets for the concert, film and both are on sale now.

From Here To Before is a feature length documentary that chronicles the story behind the writing of a classic 'lost' album and the re-emergence of its critically acclaimed singer/songwriter, Vashti Bunyan. Filmed and directed by Kieran Evans, this beautifully shot and wonderfully evocative film is a lyrical, modern day road movie that retraces Vashti's extraordinary journey from London to the island of Berneray in the Outer Hebrides of northern Scotland and sets it against the backdrop of her first high profile London concert.
Andrew Loog Oldham, Joe Boyd, Robert Kirby, Devendra Banhart, Max Richter and Adem Ilhan all appear in the film which premiered in London in October 2008.
