"We want to apologize to our fans who came out to the Red Bull event last night in the hellish cold to see us play. Originally, we were to go on just before 9PM and play for 45-minutes. One of the snowboarding events ran very late which caused us to delay the start of our set. That, and a curfew we were not informed about until 9:30PM snowballed into an unfortunate situation that was beyond our control . As we were walking to the stage, we were instructed to cut our set to three songs, and no one was more surprised than us when they cut the PA before we could finish the third song. We are particularly mortified that this happened when our good friend, Chuck D, had just taken the stage for "Bring the Noise". We extend our apologies to him.

Nothing like this has ever happened to Anthrax before, and we regret that it happened last night. Thank you to those who came out to support and once again our sincere apologies"

Over the last three weeks, a massive snowboard ramp has risen in East River Park, in the shadow of the Williamsburg Bridge. Nine stories tall and 150 yards long, it required more than 100 workers to build, and it has lured 16 of the world's top professional snowboarders to compete in Thursday's Red Bull Snowscrapers, billed as the largest urban snowboard event in North America.

Riders, including the 2006 Olympic snowboarding gold medalist Shaun White, Travis Rice, and Terje Haakonsen, will zip down the ramp and soar 50 feet while performing aerial maneuvers before touching down on either side of a 36-foot-long ramp. A panel of judges will rate the best moves and style. The winner will get $50,000 of a $100,000 purse. [The NY Times]

That NY Times article came out before yesterday's event (2/5). Musical guests included Valient Thorr (seen above bundled up after he/they played) (and who are performing again tonight/Friday in Brooklyn), Black Gold (who play/DJ again outside today/Friday at South Street Seaport), and "Anthrax" who were joined by Public Enemy's Chuck D (as seen above). Bring the Noise.

Chris, who is no stranger to the Valient Thorr, got there too late to catch the opening band, but he did get lots of pretty pictures from the rest of the action, as you can see below...

Anthrax 2008
Anthrax

A biological weapon past it's efficacy - one Bush + a gold medal + East River - one kidney = ?

Got the answer? Red Bull maybe does:

On Thursday, February 5th, 17 of the world's best snowboarders will compete for their piece of the massive $100,000 prize purse at Red Bull Snowscrapers. Athletes will compete against the majestic backdrop of the New York City skyline in the East River Park from 6-9 pm. The local thrash heavy metal band Anthrax is set to perform.

Athletes include iconic Olympic Gold Medalist Shaun White, freestyle / backcountry legend Travis Rice and ultra-progressive phenomenon Pat Moore. World renowned Burton riders for the ground-breaking event include Kevin Pearce, Mikkel Bang, Danny Davis, Kohei Kubo, Kazuhiro Kakubo, and snowboard legend Terje Haakonsen. Other confirmed riders include Nitro's Andreas Wiig, DC's Torstein Horgmo, Forum's Jake Blauvelt and Greg Bretz, along with Rome rider Bjorn Leines and Ride's JJ Thomas.

Gnarly. What's more, we also have word that Anthrax will be joined by Valient Thorr & Black Gold. THEN, just two days later, the snow festivities continue with Winter Jam NYC 2009. More details on both days below...
