White Lung at Fun Fun Fun Fest 2013 (more by Tim Griffin)
It's year-end list season and though all White Lung really have in the way of eligible releases is their recent 7", 2013 has really been a breakout year for them. So we asked them what new albums they were listening to this year, and guitarist Kenny William contributed a top 10 list that shifts between dark rap, heavy punk, goth, experimental soundscapers and more. Check out the full thing below.
White Lung have done a ton of touring this year, and though their schedule is almost empty at the moment, before the year ends the Vancouver punk band will return to NYC for a stacked show at NYU's E&L Auditorium on Thursday (12/5) with Ceremony, Perfect Pussy, and Sleepies. That show is free for students and $5 at the door for the general public.

Atoms for Peace / Disclosure / fans
Giraffage kicked things off at noon during Saturday's stretch of the festival after an introduction from Noise Pop/Salty Artist Management's Chad Heimann aka Chad Salty, performing sample-driven dance music for the early crowd. Giraffage's two-girl "skate squad" roller skated around the stage, waving an American flag as Charlie dropped the bass-heavy banger "Money", leading into his remix of "Party in the USA".While CMJ was going down in NYC, across the country in San Francisco, the annual two-day Treasure Island Music Festival (10/19-20) returned. The first day had a mostly electronic-oriented lineup, featuring sets from Atoms for Peace, Major Lazer, Little Dragon, Phantogram, Disclosure, Danny Brown and more. Pictures from that day are in this post, and a set of day 2 pics is on the way.
Antwon cranked up the bass on the Tunnel Stage with local producer Nanosaur and rapper Sad Andy backing his punk-inspired rap songs. The Nature Boy gang performed fan favorites such as "Dark Denim", "Helicopter", and "Living Every Dream". Sad Andy did not perform "Ferragamo", despite audience requests. However, Antwon did stop the beats to lead the crowd in a singalong of "I Want It That Way" by the Backstreet Boys.
Holy Ghost! performed a fun set of colorful dance rock, followed by Little Dragon on the Bridge Stage. Phantogram drew an impressive crowd to Saturday's final set on the Tunnel Stage, with the duo debuting danceable new material despite a few harsh feedback issues. Fireworks went off across the bay as the band performed. Atoms For Peace closed out the evening with a hooded Flea, and Thom Yorke singing tracks from AMOK while busting out his unique dance moves. [The Bay Bridged]
For Little Dragon, it was part of their tour which hits NYC tonight (10/23) at Bowery Ballroom and Thursday (10/24) at MHOW for sold-out shows with SZA.

San Jose rapper Antwon released a new 7", "Dying in the Pussy," earlier this year via Suicide Squeeze, and he's now just given that track the video treatment. It was directed by Cali Dewitt, who did a live video of Iceage's NYC shows in January, and you can watch it below.
Antwon also has some upcoming dates this year, including a previously discussed tour with Le1f and Lakutis which hits NYC on September 27 at Santos (tickets) and after that, a fall run of the west/southwest with White Lung.
All tour dates are listed, along with the new video, below...

Le1f at The Whitney in April (more by Ryan Muir)
In the past year or so, NYC rapper Le1f released two mixtapes, Dark York and Fly Zone, and now he's set to release a third, Tree House, on September 10. The first single, "Damn Son" (produced by Shy Guy and featuring backing vocals from Rahel), is out now and can be downloaded above or streamed below.
Le1f will also be kicking off a tour a couple weeks after that release which includes a hometown show on September 27 at Santos Party House. That show, and almost every other date on the tour, is with two other rappers: Pictureplane associate and White Lung's pal Antwon and Das Racist cohort Lakutis (who previously toured with Le1f when they both were support acts for Das Racist). Tickets for the NYC show are on sale now.

Pictureplane at BrooklynVegan SXSW showcase 2013 (more by Amanda Hatfield)
As mentioned, Pictureplane is going on a US tour this spring with Crystal Castles, but first will be in New Haven, CT at Toad's Place tonight (4/12) for a show with Mykki Blanco, Beat Culture and Oberhofer (who has upcoming NYC shows).
After returning home from that tour, he'll play show at Santos Party House on May 16 with another rapper, Antwon, whose album End of Earth features some production by Pictureplane. Tickets for what should be a pretty great show are on sale now. All tour dates are listed below.
Pictureplane also just released a new track, "Pure War." In his words, "the song is really about waging a war. a pure war against the war that is waged on us everyday.
reclaiming yourself." It's one of the heaviest tracks Pictureplane has ever done, with dark, booming synths that will translate really well on the dancefloor. And while tracks like "Real Is A Feeling" have already proved Pictureplane as a strong vocalist, there's a newfound conviction in his vocals in this song that arguably tops anything he's done to date.
The track will apear on the video game soundtrack for Injustice: Gods Among Us, along with tracks from Killer Mike (listen below), Minus the Bear (listen below), Depeche Mode, The Faint, and others.
All Pictureplane dates are listed, along with all song streams below...

by Fred Pessaro // BBG
Antwon's recent End of Earth LP and End of Earth Remixz mixtape, the latter of which surfaced at Gorilla v Bear, were a good indication of the MC's predeliction towards glitchy, at times ugly (in the best way) electronic hip hop. Think a less-nasal Freeway over a mix of Death Grips and other electronic beats.
The MC has a pair of dates sheduled for NYC in the coming weeks including a (conditionally) FREE show on January 23 at Public Assembly with Trinidad James (who'll play SOB's too), Hot Sugar, and DJ Getlive!; and then January 24 at Santos Party House with guests Cities Aviv and Weekend Money. Tickets for the Santos show are on sale.
