Ansari & Eric Wareheim in 'Master of None'
Aziz Ansari has a new sitcom on Netflix, titled Master of None, and its entire debut season will be available to stream on Friday (11/6). He co-created and wrote all 10 episodes with Parks and Rec alum Alan Yang and stars as Dev, a 30-year-old actor in New York. It's been getting great reviews, with TV critic Alan Sepinwall calling it "instantly not only one of Netflix's best series, but one of the best shows on TV." They filmed the show here in NYC, having shot at Brooklyn locations like Baby's All Right (a scene supposedly featuring Father John Misty) and The Commodore. H. John Benjamin, onetime SNL player Noël Wells and Eric Wareheim (who directed many of the episodes) and are part of the cast, as are Ansari's real life parents who play his mom and dad. There was an advance screening of the pilot on Monday night (11/2) at 92Y with Q&A moderated by John Hamm. Anyone go to that?
You can check out the trailer for the show (featuring Iggy Pop's "Nightclubbing" and Joy Division's "Isolation"), and a few episode clips, below.
Aziz Ansari and Amy Schumer were both on the 2014 Oddball Comedy Tour, but in the time since then both have gotten noticeably more famous, and they'll now co-headline the 2015 Oddball Comedy Tour. Support lineups vary between dates.
The NYC-area gets stops at Wantagh, NY's Nikon at Jones Beach Theater on September 4, Holmdel, NJ's PNC Bank Arts Center on September 5, Hartford, CT's XFINITY Theatre on September 12, and Camden, NJ's Susquehanna Bank Center on September 13. The Jones Beach and PNC shows have support from Anthony Jeselnik, Jay Pharaoh, Jeff Ross, Jim Norton, Michael Che, Nick Kroll and Todd Barry. Hartford has Bridget Everett, Nikki Glaser, Dave Attell, Antony Jeselnik, Jeff Ross and Nick Kroll (and remember, Hartford is also where Dave Chappelle walked off stage in 2013 and made a surprise appearance to apologize in 2014). And Camden is the same as Hartford, plus Michael Che and John Mulaney.
Tickets for the whole tour go on sale Friday (7/10) at 10 AM with Previous Purchaser and VIP presales starting Wednesday (7/8) at 10 AM, and Ticketmaster/Live Nation presales starting Thursday (7/9) at 10 AM. Check out the Oddball website for each stop's lineup. All dates are listed below.
If there's one universal truth out there, it's that love hurts. And it's a topic comedian/actor Aziz Ansari explores in Modern Romance (Penguin Press), co-written with NYU sociology professor Eric Klinenberg. If you've seen Aziz Ansari's MSG special (if you haven't, it's on Netflix), you know he's got a lot of opinions on modern romance -- it was the name of his tour and now it's also a book. Aziz is celebrating with a book tour, that begins in NYC on Tuesday (6/16) at NYU Skirball Center. Tickets for the whole tour are on sale now, and come with a copy of the book.
The book, inspired by topics Ansari riffs on during his stand-up act, looks at how Tinder and texting have impacted the way we date and mate, and why. [USA Today]

You may remember that the Hartford stop of last year's Funny or Die Oddball Comedy tour was where Dave Chappelle walked off stage due to unruly hecklers. The 2014 Oddball Comedy Tour returned to Hartford last night (8/23), this time with Louis CK, Aziz Ansari, Amy Schumer, Sarah Silverman, Hannibal Buress, Dave Attell and Kevin Iso. Throughout the night, host Brody Stevens referenced last year's incident, saying it lit a fire under the tour. Earlier in the the day on the side stage, he said "NYC's only an hour away, you never know who could show up." And he was right. After Louie's headlining set, he said, "Ladies and gentlemen, Dave Chappelle." And Dave himself returned to the same stage that last year's "meltdown" occurred. This time it was all positivity though. He got a standing ovation from most of the crowd for his entire time on stage, which was half an apology and half a mini-set.
Watch a video of his set, with the list of remaining Oddball dates, below...
Some were a little surprised when Aziz Ansari announced he'd be playing MSG on October 9. Well he's now added a late show (10:30 PM) happening at MSG the same night (10/9). Tickets for the just-added show are currently on presale (password: GARDEN) with tickets going on sale to the general public on Friday (8/15) morning at 10 AM. The early show (7:30 PM) appears to be sold out, it's currently "off sale." Way to go Aziz!
Aziz is also on several nights of the Oddball Comedy Tour with Louis CK, Sarah Silverman, Amy Schumer and more. The closest stop to NYC with Aziz on board is the Hartford, CT show.
For the second year in a row, online comedy hub Funny or Die is bringing an insane lineup of comedians, entertainers, and other funny people to 20 different cities around the U.S via the Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival. This year, the tour includes a fantastic lineup of comedians young and old with literally someone to please everyone: Amy Schumer, Hannibal Buress, Chris Hardwick and Aziz Ansari to Louis CK, Jim Gaffigan, and Mark Maron, with even a few true oddballs (Demetri Martin, Reggie Watts) in the mix. There's also a second stage hosted by Brody Stevens. Lineup varies from venue to venue, but all announced Oddball 2014 performers are listed below.
The tour doesn't stop in NYC proper -- though Aziz has that under control on his own at MSG -- Oddball does have a few stops in the NY area: August 16 at Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, NJ, August 17 at PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ, August 22 at Nikon at Jones Beach Theater. and August 23 at Xfinity Theatre in Hartford, CT. Tickets are currently on Citi cardmember and Previous Purchasers presale and go on sale to the general public Saturday (6/28) at 10 AM.
The full tour dates are listed, along with a tour poster and 2014 lineup, below.

Aziz in a Daft Punk helmet
Last night (4/3) was a good night for music on TV. Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy made an appearance on Portlanda (as announced), where he records a new song in the studio as Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein question the authenticity of his song. Watch the very funny video of that (via Stereogum) below. This follows St. Vincent's appearance on Portlandia, and as you may know, Jeff Tweedy is among the musicians set to appear on the season 6 finale of Parks & Recreation.
Speaking of Parks & Recreation, on last night's episode Tom Haverford (Aziz Ansari), in one of his usual disputes with Ben Wyatt (Adam Scott) -- this time over DJing a prom together -- tells Ben he "is now working with DJ Rumbodrop" and proceeds to put on a Daft Punk helmet. You can watch that clip below too.

To quote IFC:
To help kick off the new season of Comedy Bang! Bang! premiering July 12 at 10pm, IFC.com released a new sneak peek from the returning companion web series "Reggie Makes Music." The newest webisodes feature various celebrity guests from Comedy Bang! Bang! creating impromptu and entertaining musical tunes accompanied by musical cohort, Reggie Watts. Aziz Ansari & Chris Rock @ Whiplash @ UCB last week
UCB Theater Chelsea's Monday night staple comedy jam session Whiplash still happens every Monday night at 11:00pm. Sadly, for old man Kinski, 11pm is just a tooouuucccchhhhh too late to be out and about galavanting with some of comedy's greatest talents these days. Which is sad, because you never know who will show up to perform, and those who do show up will usually blow your mind. For example, the Monday November 19th installment featured Chris Rock, Aziz Ansari, Simon Amstell and Anthony Jeselnik. Holy.
But before the next Whiplash, the UCB Theater in Chelsea will be playing host to an awesome Sandy Benefit show on Sunday November 25th at 9:30pm. The line-up is festooned with so many Klaus favorites. $15 not only gets you piece of mind knowing you are helping out people whose lives were turned upside-down by hurricane Sandy, but you get performances by Arden Myrin, W. Kamau Bell (Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell on FX), Seth Herzog, Dave Hill, Jamie Kilstein, Janine Brito, Kevin Avery, Sara Benincasa, C.F. Lederer, and Chris Gethard (who by the way has a small part in the very last episode of Bored to Death) (I just watched it the other day and was reminded of that important fact). The show will be hosted by Nato Green.
Dave Hill & Tig Notaro
And speaking of Dave Hill and the UCB Theater in Chelsea, prepare yourselves for another fantastic installment of The Dave Hill Explosion which will take place on Thursday November 29th at 9:30pm. Dave's special guest will be Tig Notaro (who recently released a CD via Louis CK) and more. We all know Dave Hill is one of NYC's best comedians, guitar players, and show reviewers, but the Explosion is always a truly epic experience where Dave REALLY shines. The Dave Hill Explosion is a long-running live talk show hosted by Dave Hill. He doesn't do it that often but when he does it's awesome. One of the greatest shows I've ever seen was the Explosion that featured Rufus Wainwright and Dick Cavett. Holy.
Meanwhile you can find Dave Hill TONIGHT (11/24) at UCB East as part of "If You Build It", and check out Dave Hill's latest podcast featuring Chris Elliott. And don't forget that you can catch Chris Elliott at the Bell House on December 7th as part of Ted Leo and Tom Scharpling's epic and now totally sold out Sandy Benefit. You can also see him at the Pit with his daughters Abby and Bridey Elliott on Thursday December 6th at Running Late with Scott Rogowsky.
Hoity-Toity gastro-comedy joint The Stand will be hosting a rather impressive Sandy benefit called MTV Presents Stand up for Sandy on Tuesday November 27th. The line-up features Jim Gaffigan, Wyatt Cenac, Nikki Glaser, Sara Schaefer and Sean Patton. The tickets are a super reasonably priced $20 and are currently on sale. And for those keeping score, Sean Patton and Sarah Schaefer are two of my favorite and definitely underrated comedians in the biz. This might be THE show that gets your man Klaus out of his comfort zone and into The Stand.
Jim Gaffigan also has other bigger area shows coming up.
Wyatt Cenac (who also performs in the sold out Sandy Benefit show at the Bell House this Sunday November 25th) continues his new Monday night residency at Littlefield on Monday November 26th and every Monday. As a matter of fact, Har Mar Superstar is musical guest this Monday November 26th.
And speaking of Littlefield, celebrate Christmas Eve there with Wyatt Cenac because it looks like it will be a special night with guests Janeane Garofalo, Michael Che (who also plays the sold out show at Bell House this Sunday), and more already announced. But before that, on Sunday December 9th Littlefield will be hosting Concert & Comedy For Sandy Animals: Benefit for the Sean Casey Animal Rescue with comedy by Michael Showalter and Jena Friedman, and music by Supercute, Casey Shea and more.
For more upcoming shows check out Eugene Mirman's schedule, Pete Holmes & Doug Benson's tour dates, Nick Kroll's tour dates, Greg Proops, and a big list of upcoming shows at the Bell House (and HERE).
As you can see above, Emceez Ansari is really good at photoshopping Aziz Ansari's face into album covers.
Speaking of funny, get the new Tig Notaro from Louis CK.
Film School Rejects is reporting that Woody Allen has cast Louis CK and Andrew Dice Clay in a new movie (must. see.).
As you may have noticed via an ad on this site, Django Django are running a sale for their new Mercury Prize-nominated album via iTunes. We recently caught them live at Knitting Factory, Bowery Ballroom, and in Chicago too.
Purity Ring at Le Poisson Rouge (more by Amanda Hatfield)
"Red Bull Music Academy" is presenting four upcoming shows in NYC:
1 - BRAINFEEDER SESSION NYC at Villain (October 10)
2 - SBTKRT LIVE at Terminal 5 (October 11)
3 - FOUR TET B2B JAMIE xx at Autumn Bowl (October 26)
4 - GRACE JONES at Roseland (October 27)
Kilo Kish, who has some CMJ shows coming up too, opens the SBTRKT show.
We're also giving away tickets to see tomorrow's Perfume Genius show at Le Poisson Rouge and Calexico and The Dodos at Webster Hall on 10/13 on our Facebook. (Perfume Genius meanwhile plays Music Hall tonight).
Speaking of, PETA released a new Pokemon game.
AND, more stuff below...
We already mentioned that Rob Delaney will be playing the New York Comedy Festval and now here's the whole 2012 line-up which goes down November 7 - 11. Performers include Aziz Ansari, Jim Gaffigan, Ricky Gervais, Kevin Hart, Bill Maher, Patton Oswalt, Brian Regan, Marlon & Shawn Wayans, Robin Williams and more. Tickets to most shows go on sale Monday, August 13 with a Citi Cardmember Presale happening right now (8/8). There's a NYCF presale that starts tomorrow (8/9) and you can get the password by liking their Facebook page.
Full NYCF line-up/schedule is below.

If you're going to GoogaMooga on Sunday, you might want to eat and drink before you get there. More pictures from Saturday below...
We still have a few more days before we find out the entire music lineup of the Great GoogaMooga, but the new Prospect Park festival announced the May 19th & 20th schedule, and almost-full lineup, of "ExtraMooga", the part of the fest that requires you to pay extra money. Taking place in multiple park venues that you can see illustrated in the above map, in addition to chefs and the previously announced James Murphy & Aziz Ansari, the lineup now also includes WTF with Marc Maron, Hot Tub with Kurt & Kristen, and Patton Oswalt too. You can view the whole thing HERE.
Meanwhile, Hot Tub with Kurt & Kristen continues every Monday night at Littlefield.
Brooklyn's Prospect Park food & music festival The Great GoogaMooga is still somewhat of a mystery, though the food lineup seems to grow by the day. What about the music (and more general admission tickets)? Well, the festival just posted this:
"Turns out we've got just as healthy of an appetite for music as we do for food and drink. On Monday, April 23rd, we'll be laying out the spread of musical enticements so you can come to The Great GoogaMooga ready to rock out between bites - 2 days, 2 stages and 10 acts each day.Meanwhile, James Murphy/Aziz Ansari/Anthony Bourdain ExtraMooga tickets are still on sale, and we know that that the Preservation Hall Jazz Band is one of the musical acts playing the fest on Saturday, and Naomi Shelton & The Gospel Queens are playing on the Sunday. Anyone else have any leaks?
Since we'll already have you drooling on Monday, we'll be opening general admission ticket registration the next day, Tuesday, April 24th. More details to come...

Hey guys. TGIF right? It has come to my attention that the comedy line up for the 11th annual Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival has dropped and boy is it something (awesome). Folks attending the comedy portion of the fest are sure to get a Boner-oo, that's for sure. The indoor and air-conditioned Bonnaroo Comedy Theatre will feature appearances by Aziz Ansari, Steven Wright, Marc Maron, Brian Posehn, Reggie Watts, Judah Freidlander, Rhys Darby, Colin Hay, Garfunkle & Oats, Amy Schumer, Pete Holmes, Rory Scovel, Mike O' Connell, Ali Wong, and Kyle Kinane. Holy. Cheezus. Read that list again. Digest. Read it again. Digest some more. There is so much goodness in that list it almost makes me sad that I don't have the $$$ or the strength to go to Bonnaroo.
Former staple of the NYC comedy scene Aziz Ansari has been on a relentless and neck-breakingly fast rise to super-stardom and sells out some of the countries largest theaters. I love him ever so much and he is a whopper of an asset to the line-up. And in case you didn't know, Aziz followed in the footsteps of comedy pioneer Louis CK by offering a download of his special Dangerously Delicious for a measly $5. Meanwhile catch Aziz on tour and at the Bonnaroo-related Googa Mooga thing happening in Brooklyn.
Marc Maron? Awesome. A living legend. Phenomenal stand-up pro and host of one of the best podcasts in this stinking, rotten world: WTF. You can also catch him live in New Brunswick four times in April.
Steven Wright is yet another living legend of stand-up. He's been in the biz since 1979 and his style and delivery has given birth to some of the best bits and one-liners in the history of stand-up (here's an exhaustive list). He bridges a seriously important gap between the current alt/indie/whateverthefuckyoucallit-comedy scene and the old school.
BRIAN POSEHN. Dude. BRIAN POSEHN!
Y'all even get a dose of Men At Work front-man Colin Hay who will play songs and share hilarious stories. I actually have two friends who shared drum duties with Hay on a recent tour and I got to have dinner with the guy. The dude's got some ridiculous stories and, man, can he tell 'em. You can also catch him in NYC at Town Hall on April 27th.
And Reggie Watts! A man who just announced a huge tour that includes a headlining gig at the rather large Webster Hall.
And Pete Holmes! Didn't I just get through telling you that Pete is awesome and even has a show coming up in NYC that you should not under any circumstances miss? Yes, I did.
Anyhow, this is one line-up I'd sure pitch a tent to see and you should take time out of your noodle-dancing schedule to check some or all of it out. Have fun!
A bunch of other dates are listed below...
Free tickets for the Prospect Park food and music festival GoogaMooga go on sale at noon. "Extra Mooga" will cost $249, and though details are vague, a press releaes mentions that, "Extra Mooga will include performances by culinary luminary Anthony Bourdain and Parks and Recreation star and comedian Aziz Ansari as well as a DJ Set by James Murphy, DFA Records / LCD Soundsystem."
Aziz Ansari at Bell House (more by David Andrako)
I could endlessly hit reload on Tom Haverfoods, but it would probably be much more rewarding to catch Tom Haverford live and in person. Thankfully Aziz Ansari will hit the road for the Buried Alive tour which kicks off on April 14th at Wellmont Theater in NJ and includes a NYC date at Beacon Theater on June 16th. Presale tickets for both shows go up today (2/29) at 10AM. Ticketmaster presale for Beacon kicks off at 10AM on 3/1 and go on regular sale the next day, while Wellmont tickets go on sale at noon on 3/2.
Do you want to go to Beacon Theater? We also have a pair of tickets to give away... details are at the bottom of this post.
All "Buried Alive" dates and the tour poster below.
"Superfly Presents and A.C. Entertainment are excited to announce the initial lineup for the 2012 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. The 11th annual four-day camping and music festival will be held on June 7 - 10 on the same beautiful 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee, 60 miles south of Nashville. A full list of confirmed acts follows, and more will be announced in the coming weeks. The final Bonnaroo 2012 lineup will total over 125 bands and over 20 comedians performing on 13 stages over four days.Tickets for the event will go on sale on this Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 12 noon EST exclusively at bonnaroo.com."Radiohead, Beach Boys, Phish, Little Dragon, SBTRKT, The Antlers, Bad Brains, Laura Marling, St. Vinent, Tune-Yards, Flying Lotus, and many more are playing Bonnaroo this year. Full list below...
Beach Boys @ The Grammys
Though the Bonnaroo lineup won't be announced until later today (via Spotify), Knoxville.com has supposedly leaked some of it via a photo gallery which includes Beach Boys, Radiohead, Bon Iver, Phish, Foster the People, Alice Cooper, Ludacris, Black Star, Skrillex, Punch Brothers, The Avett Brothers, The Shins, Flogging Molly, Feist and Aziz Ansari. We can't know for sure if this is all correct, but I did hear that the Beach Boys were playing, and many of those bands have been rumored for a while, and the Beach Boys have promised more dates, so... well, we'll see soon! UPDATE: Yep, they are!
If it is all true, I really hope that this time Foster the People stay off the Beach Boys' stage unlike at the Grammys, as you can watch below...

Aziz Ansari booked two last minute Saturday night shows at the Bell House to test out material for a new album he hopes to release next year. Hannibal Burress opened both the early and late shows. We've got some pictures from the the late one in this post.
Jay-Z and Kanye West's N*ggas in Paris is an epically hard, head bumping anthem that's ruled rap for the better part of the year. Aziz Ansari and Matthew Shawver just one upped it by translating it into a hilarious rendition filled with emojis from their iPhones. This is the best thing to happen to music all year.Hannibal Buress, who don't forget performs at Knitting Factory in Brooklyn for free almost every Sunday night, has some hip hop related news of his own too. He got Young Jeezy's attention with a joke.
More pictures from the Brooklyn show below...
Aziz Ansari, David Chang & James Murphy
AZIZ ANSARI with Special Guest HANNIBAL BURESSOnly one person in the above picture will be performing at the Bell House on Saturday, but all three are featured in a GQ article, and another one is DJing in Williamsburg in less than two weeks, one day before Dom opens for Fucked Up in the same unique venue.
This Saturday, December 10th at The Bell House
21+ / $15
Both shows on-sale at noon
