Coke Bust will return to NYC with Tenement, D.O.C. and Rational Animals to play Acheron on 1/4. The show is one of a few dates for the fast-hardcore crew. Chris of Coke Bust/Magrudergrind will also be playing drums with D.O.C. when they play Saturday (12/17) at Death By Audio with Triac, Backslider (who are streaming a new track), and Psychic Limb as part of Defeatist's farewell show. Defeatist's Tyranny of Decay was one of my favorite records of 2011, and the Coke Bust show at Acheron was also one of my favorites of the year.
Weekend Nachos have added a gang of dates with Homewrecker leading up to their appearance at A389 Anniversary. Those dates include a stop at ABC No Rio on 1/19. Full tour schedule is below.
Morbid Saint will hit the road for a pair of East Coast gigs that will include Europa on 1/20 with Deceased, Carcinogen and Midnight Hellion. Tickets are on sale.

Defeatist at Shea Stadium (more by BBG)

Defeatist have announced that "this turd has been circling the bowl long enough, so we have decided to flush it for good." The trio have a pair of NYC dates left on the calendar before they call it quits. on Saturday, 11/12 they play Acheron with Gaza, Tiger Flowers, & Don't Give A Fuck, and then their final date is on 12/17 at Death By Audio with the great Triac, Psychic Limb, Disciples Of Christ (mems of Magrudergrind), and Backslider. Defeatist recently released their final LP Tyranny of Decay. Stream it below in full and order your copy before they (the band and the LP) disappear for good.
Reminder: a pair of bands featuring members of Magrudergrind, Coke Bust & Sick Fix, will hit NYC on 11/19 at Acheron with Masakari and Grudges. Despise You

"He couldn't get through an entire set without fucking up once," Despise You's Chris Elder quipped while looking at Phil Vera before the final song of the Despise You set at Shea Stadium last night (9/11). It was a minor speedbump in an otherwise excellent set from the band and a stark contrast from Phil Vera's appearance with Crom in NYC in 2008. At that show, the protagonist and his cohorts were so obliterated, they barely got through a single song. Both were beyond entertaining albeit in entirely different ways. Ancient history aside, Despise You made recent history with their first-ever NYC appearance at Shea Stadium, blasting through a mix of classics and material from their recent split with Agoraphobic Nosebleed.
Sunday night's bill was completely dedicated to speed-arts in varying levels of popularity and venom. Despise you's tour-mates Magrudergrind and Defeatist represent the two ends of the grind spectrum, with the former being the most talked about and the latter being one of the most underrated. Both bands delivered excellent sets with the room at 1/2 - 2/3 capacity by the time Defeatist opened the show, and a moshing, crowd-surfing crowd by the time Magrudergrind hit the stage for their set (greeted, appropriately, by side one of Mobb Deep's The Infamous LP). Backslider and The Communion filled out the remainder of the bill.
Defeatist recently released a new song from their Tyranny of Decay LP, but now you can stream the ENTIRE LP below. Order a copy.
More pictures from the show and all Despise You/Magrudergrind tour dates are also below...

On their way to Boston to record their new LP with Kurt Ballou at God City, acerbie noise rock killers KEN Mode played Acheron on Tuesday (8/17) with Brooklyn's own blackened hardcore greats Castevet and Boston's spacey post-rock/metallers Junius. The heroes in Junius filled in at the last minute for East Of The Wall after an illness required the band to cancel their appearance.
Junius are currently out with ORBS, but will circle back through NYC with Howl and Valient Thorr, tagging Southpaw on 9/24. All dates below.
In related news, Acheron has a pair of interesting shows this weekend: Friday is grind-day with Baltimore's Triac, along with Curandera (ex ASRA & Tombs, current Mutilation Rites) and Backslider, and Saturday is female-fronted Richmond doomers Windhand (mem Facedowninshit).

Ingrowing at The Charleston

Friday marked the beginning of pre-MDF madness in NYC, with 15+ metal shows in the next week. Picking my battles carefully, I figured the grindcore massacre at the Charleston was a good place to start: Buckshot Facelift, Backslider, The Communion, Ingrowing and Flourishing.
Buckshot started off strong with their porn-grind blast and songs like "Giving Acid to a Gorilla That Knows Sign Language". Backslider quickly replaced them for an equally short set of guitar and drum powerviolence, with each song around 30 seconds at best.
This was my first time seeing The Communion (who are changing their name to Kanalbrigade), but count me converted - their filthy grind/crust/sludge mix should go over well at MDF, although it's a shame they're playing so early on Friday (3:30). This has obviously been a hard month for the band, so it's good to see them soldier on. They'll be back in Brooklyn for two shows with Bastard Noise (6/26 @ Cake Shop, 6/28 @ Death by Audio), where they'll collaborate with Blood of a Zombie: "to create a grind/noise big band befitting such an event. This will be a more experimental chaotic performance, bridging the gap between THE COMMUNION and KANALBRIGADE, our next phase."
Czech deathgrind bastards Ingrowing played a furious, but groovy set, proving that music (and not English) is the universal language; I have absolutely no idea what the singer said between songs. Catch them again on Wednesday, 5/26 at Fontana's (with the almighty Gorod! + Demilitia, Jesus Crost and Rompeprop) and hopefully the crowd will be a bit more lively. They play MDF on Saturday.
Flourishing closed things out with their trademark disharmonic intensity, the sonic equivalent of grinding your teeth til your gums bleed. The manic guitar and and drums obliterate any possible groove every few seconds, leaving no room to breathe, let alone mosh or headbang. Unforgiving. They'll be at Lit on June 7th with Castevet, Woe and Batillus.
