Black Keys at Central Park in 2012 (more by Dana (distortion) Yavin)
Black Keys

The Super Bowl weekend concerts in NYC keep coming. After already announcing Red Hot Chili Peppers at Barclays Center, Foo FIghters on the Bud Light Hotel cruise, The Roots on that same cruise, and others, three more concerts, billed as The Evenings With Legends, were announced today.

The first of those happens with John Legend at McKittrick Hotel on January 29, the intimate venue which is home to Sleep No More, and where the just-announced Les Claypool show is also happening.

The next night, Band of Horses play McKittrick Hotel (1/30), which is a one-off ahead of their upcoming acoustic tour which hits NYC for a sold-out show on 2/28 at Town Hall.

And lastly, the Black Keys will headline the soon-to-close Roseland Ballroom on January 31. No ticket links for any of these shows yet.

In other recent Black Keys news, "Bob Dylan's Hair" wasn't actually Bob Dylan's hair, and Patrick Carney is co-producing the new Black Lips album.

Nine Inch Nails / Chance the Rapper / the crowd
Nine Inch Nails
Lollapalooza Day 1 - 8/2/2013
Lollapalooza Day 1 - 8/2/2013

Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor breaks into the explicit chorus of "Closer" and a spasm of impressionistic dancing breaks out among the fans stretched out to the south end of Butler Field. Has the Man from the Black Hole of '90s Industrial Music turned into a nostalgia act? Despite a set list dusted with vintage material, Reznor sounds like anything but a relic. The exceptional audio quality of the festival's northermost stage underlines not just the oppressive thrust of Reznor's music, but its eerie subtleties and darkly beautiful colorations as well. After a five-year hiatus, Reznor has retooled the band yet again, with a new album on the way. But everything still revolves around the leader and his exacting standards. A new song declares, "I'm just trying to find my way," but he hardly seems lost. - [Chicago Tribune]
A somewhat soggy start to Lollapalooza on Friday (8/2), but that didn't seem to dampen anyone's spirits at Chicago's Grant Park, where bands played across eight stages. We've got a second set of pics from Friday HERE on the way, with many of the artists not in this set, including ones from BrooklynVegan's hosted portion of the Soundwave Tent.

Lollapalooza continues today (8/3) with a much better weather forecast and sets from The Postal Service, HAIM, The National, Local Natives, and more. If you're going today, be sure to stop by the Soundwave Tent where BrooklynVegan will be hosting from 1 PM - 3 PM with hosts Chris Gethard and Billy Jones and the following guests:

12:40 p.m. - Local Natives (performance and interview)
1:00 p.m. - IO Echo (interview)
1:30 p.m. - Smith Westerns (interview)
2:00 p.m. - Drowners (performance and interview)
2:20 p.m. - School of Rock
2:30 p.m. - Heartless Bastards (performance and interview)
If you're not in Chicago (or in Chicago but not at Lollapalooza), some of today's performances are being streamed live. Here's today's webcast schedule (in Central Time):

3:00PM - COURT YARD HOUNDS

More of the big 2012 year-end lists have been rolling in, with NPR and SPIN recently revealing theirs, and now Rolling Stone have unleashed theirs. Similarly to Uncut, the expected albums from older artists are there, including Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Dr. John, and the number one slot going to Bruuuuuuuuuuuce. It's got huge albums like Mumford and Sons, Taylor Swift, and fun., as well as the token high ranking indie album (Japandroids at #9), the token washed up band who was once classic (Green Day), things you knew you'd see on Rolling Stone's list like Jack White and Alabama Shakes, and... Grimes!

You can read the whole list below...

Jason Lytle

The Foo Fighters with Bob Mould / Joan Jett, Deluna Fest 2012
Foo Fighters Bob Mould
Foo Fighters

The Foo Fighters headlined day 2 of the Deluna Fest in Florida (9/22) and while they've been no strangers to giant outdoor shows this summer (like Global Fest which happened this weekend in NYC), this was the only one where they sang happy birthday to Joan Jett who then joined them for "Bad Reputation." She did her own set earlier in the day. Additionally, Bob Mould came out for "Dear Rosemary" and Tom Petty's "Breakdown." Bob played Sugar's Copper Blue on day 3 (which he already did in Brooklyn).

In addition to Grohl & Co, Bad Brains also blessed day 2 (pics) as well as Brass-a-Holics, Saints of Valory, Mike Doughty, OFF!, Band of Horses (who also played Global Fest) and The Joy Formidable who will be touring (and playing NYC) and whose Deluna set photos are here.

Dave Grohl, Neil Young & Dan Auerbach  / Olivia Wilde / Band of Horses, Global Festival, 9/29/2012
Global Fest 2012
Global Fest 2012
Global Fest 2012

A crowd of 60,000 strong showed up at the Great Lawn in Central Park yesterday (9/29) for Global Festival, a concert to raise awareness about (and funds to help) global hunger, featuring names like Neil Young, Foo Fighters, Black Keys, Band of Horses and K'naan:

The acts seemed especially stunned by the size of the Central Park crowd. "This event is so great, I can't get over it," marveled Band of Horses frontman Ben Bridwell. Auerbach was similarly moved: "What an amazing thing, it feels great up here," he said. The Keys proceded to fill the giant space with their fast, fuzzed-out riffs, Auerbach buzzing across the stage during cuts like "Howlin for You" and "Money Maker," backed by Patrick Carney's tight grooves. The highlight? When 60,000 fans clapped during the furious breakdown of "I Got Mine," and Auerbach lost himself in the monster riff.

Dave Grohl launched the Foo Fighters' set with a mellow solo version of "Times Like These," before the band kicked in raucously and Grohl bounced across each end of the stage headbanging. Grohl seemed most psyched to be there out of anyone, letting out several throaty howls and leading huge sing-alongs on "My Hero" to "All My Life."...Grohl seemed determined to savor every moment; at one point, he made it clear that this would be the band's last show for a while. "I wish we could play all night - but I'd rather see Neil Young," he said. "We don't have any shows after this. This is where we play as many songs as we can in a short period of time, because, honestly, I don't know when we're gonna do it again." -[Rolling Stone]

The evening ended with an incendiary set from the great Neil Young, who closed the festivities with a 10-minute version of "Rockin' In The Free World" featuring Dave Grohl and Dan Auerbach. If you missed it, although Foo Fighters probably won't be around the block any time soon, you can catch Neil Young on his upcoming tour that hits both MSG and Barclays Center before the end of 2012.

Pictures of that collaboration as well as all bands and cameos from Olivia Wilde, Selena Gomez, John Legend and more, are below.
