Laura Stevenson

As mentioned, Laura Stevenson is releasing her new album, Wheel, on April 23 via Don Giovanni, and she's announced that she'll support the album on a full band tour with Field Mouse this spring. That tour culminates in a NYC show on May 24 at Bowery Ballroom. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (3/8) at noon with an AmEx presale starting Wednesday (3/6) at noon. All tour dates are listed below.

As usual, you'll have plenty of chances to catch Field Mouse in NYC before and after that tour, including this Friday (3/8) at Shea Stadium with Darlings, Permanent Collection, and Honeydrum; March 20 at Pianos with Fear of Men, Slander, The Lost Patrol and a DJ set from Silent Drape Runners (tickets); and an Aputumpu Festival show on March 28 at Cameo with Dickpic (aka Pictureplane and DJ Dog Dick), Psychic Twin, Silent Drape Runners, Vensaire, and a DJ set from Chrome Canyon (tickets).

In related news, Field Mouse's friends Allison Weiss and Candy Hearts kicked off a tour together this past Saturday (3/2) in Virgina and after moving across the country through SXSW, it returns to the east coast, ending in a NYC show on April 6 at Shea Stadium with Mal Blum and Banquets.

Candy Hearts

We've seen lots of bands lately that cross over between punk (or pop punk) and indie scenes, and Brooklyn's Candy Hearts is one of those with a crossover audience. Their most recent release, The Best Ways to Disappear EP, came out last year via Bridge 9 Records and Violently Happy Records, and they have a full length in the works for this year. The EP is six tracks of charming lyrical pop punk that's sugary and clean around the edges, but frontwoman Mariel Loveland has attitude and is a very human songwriter. You can stream one of those tracks, "Bad Idea," at the bottom of this post.

Candy Hearts last played NYC in December when they were on tour with New Found Glory (whose guitarist Chad Gilbert produced the Candy Hearts EP and runs Violently Happy Records) but if seeing them with NFG isn't your thing, you might rather catch them at a small, sweaty show with other local DIY punk bands. They'll do just that when they headline a Hurricane Sandy benefit in Brooklyn on January 26 at The Grand Victory (245 Grand St) with Banquets, Model Home, Up For Nothing, and Sad and French. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Screaming Females at Barbarella (more by Tim Griffin)

Screaming Females, who just completed a run of shows that brought them to Santos Party and Maxwell's, and who will be playing Culture Shock up at SUNY Purchase in April, will head out on tour in June with Lemuria and headliner Against Me!. The tour actually kicks off May 31 in Millvale, PA, though Lemuria and Against Me! both also play Krazy Fest in Louisville on May 21. The tour hits NYC at Webster Hall on June 7th. Tickets go on AmEx presale today at noon (4/6) and regular sale on Friday. All tour dates are below.

Against Me!'s last NYC shows were two opening slots at Roseland and a last minute, headlining matinee at the intimate Mercury Lounge.

Meanwhile, Lemuria is heading out on tour with Joyce Manor & White Wives. That tour hits The Studio at Webster Hall on April 27th. Tickets are on sale for the show that also includes Banquets. All dates are listed below.

The last time that Lemuria and Screaming Females crossed paths in NYC was at the Don Giovanni showcase at Music Hall of Williamsburg in February. There the bands were joined by Laura Stevenson & The Cans who also just announced a big tour including a run with Fake Problems, Pomegranates and Into It. Over It that hits Brooklyn's Knitting Factory on May 10th (tickets) and Manhattan's Mercury Lounge on May 13th (tickets).

Laura Stevenson & the Cans meanwhile are hitting road in April after a public show at Baruch College on April 8th (tickets are on sale). The band's sophmore album is out via Don Giovanni on April 26th. An MP3 from that record is at the top of this post.
