No Joy @ Chicago's Lincoln Hall, May 2013 (more by James Richards IV)
No Joy

We didn't figure No Joy would come down from Canada for Pitchfork's Basilica Sound Scape festival in September and not play at least a NYC show. It turns out, however, they've plotted a whole tour. That does indeed include an NYC show: Mercury Lounge on September 17. Tickets to that show go on sale Friday (8/2) at noon. All dates are listed below.

If you haven't checked out No Joy's latest album, Wait to Pleasure, yet it does a great job of blending the heavy and ethereal. You can stream it via Spotify.

Meanwhile, Basilica Festival (September 13-14) has announced it's full line-up which includes additions like Julianna Barwick, Teengirl Fantasy, Malang Djobateh, artist Genevieve White, and a reading from Peter Sotos. Tickets are still available and you can check out the full line-up below.

You can also catch Julianna Barwick even sooner at her previously discussed NYC show happening at Judson Memorial Church on August 20. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

No Joy tour dates are listed, along with Basilica Sound Scape flyer and line-up, below...

The Saturday of the festival now also includes No Joy and Pure X, in addition to previously announced sets by DIIV and Cass McCombs.

Prince Rama at Basilica Festival - 8/11/12 (via BrooklynVegan Instagram)
Prince Rama

Brooklyn experimentalists Prince Rama played the Basilica Music Festival in Hudson, NY over the weekend (pictured above). Their set was on Saturday (8/11) along with sets by Gang Gang Dance, The Psychic Paramount, Hiro Kone, and others.

As mentioned, Prince Rama and Gang Gang Dance will again share a bill on September 23 at 285 Kent, which is one of three NYC shows for GGD, who also play Public Assembly on September 21 with Sun Araw and Cameo on September 22 with New Moods. Tickets for Cameo and 285 Kent and tickets for Public Assembly are still available.

You can also catch Prince Rama in NYC even sooner than that when they play DUMBO Summer Friday (presented by Northside, the DUMBO Improvement District, and The O Music Awards Unboxed) on Friday, August 17 with Javelin, Zambri, and Bosco Delrey. It's a day show (start time: 2 PM) and happens at the DUMBO Archway (corner of Anchorage Place and Water St in Brooklyn). There will also be DJs, sound installations by Laura Vitale and food from The Brooklyn Flea.

Prince Rama will release their new album, Top Ten Hits Of The End Of The World, on November 6 via Animal Collective's Paw Tracks label (they're also set to support AnCo on their European tour). They recently revealed the first taste of that album with the track "So Destroyed," which you can download above (via Stereogum) or stream below.

A list of all dates and that stream below...

Prince Rama

Brooklyn sibling duo Prince Rama will release their new album, Top Ten Hits Of The End Of The World, on November 6 via Paw Tracks. That's the cover art above, and if it looks like some used-bin '80s K-Tel compilation, the album functions in much the same way. Here's a bit from the press release:

Conceived as a pseudo-compilation album, the Brooklyn duo invented ten different pop bands that died during the apocalypse, channelling the ghosts of each one to perform the various songs. Spanning genres and stylistic eras from across the globe, Top Ten Hits explores pop music's relationship to memory, nostalgia, and the spirit world. Incorporating influences as disparate as cosmic disco, motorcycle rock, new-wave, grunge, tribal goth, Arabic pop, and ghost-modern glam, Prince Rama filters each sound through the destroyed lens of a post-apocalyptic future looking back at the wonders of its sonic past...Top Ten Hits of the End of the World isn't just a pop album, it's a retrospective requiem of all pop albums ever made. Nothing like this has ever been attempted by a single band, and its residual echoes will continue to haunt this world and the next.
"Ghost-modern glam"...you can't say these ladies don't have a sense of humor about themselves. Long before the album drops, you'll have a few chances to see them play. (Maybe you already did, last week at Summercreen?) Prince Rama plays the Basilica Festival in Hudson, NY on August 11 and open for Gang Gang Dance at 285 Kent on September 23. All tour dates are listed below.

Prince Rama at Austin's Mohawk in 2011 (more by Tim Griffin)
Prince Rama

We just mentioned that Gang Gang Dance are playing a Bandshell-presented show at Public Assembly on September 21 with Sun Araw, and we've realized that they also play another Bandshell-presented show the next day at Cameo Gallery on September 22 with Prince Rama. Tickets for the Cameo show are on sale now, and like the Public Assembly show, they cost $27.

Gang Gang and Prince Rama are both playing Hudson, NY's Basilica Music Festival in August. Since we last spoke, more details for that "festival" have been announced. Pitchfork (who are co-presenting the festival) reports:

In addition to previously announced acts Liturgy, Gang Gang Dance, Prince Rama, Mick Barr, and others, we're happy to add more components to the weekend: Blazer, a New Mexico-based sound system owned and operated by Excepter's Nathan Corbin and specializing in heavy dub, roots, ragga and dancehall, will be featured on Saturday afternoon. "Neidan!" will also feature performances from the Psychic Paramount, Hiro Kone, and Mike Fellows (aka Miighty Flashlight, ex-Rites of Spring). We're also introducing an early-evening sunset cruise on the Hudson on Saturday.
Tickets for Basilica Music Festival are still available.
