Deafheaven at MHOW in September 2014 (more by Amanda Hatfield)
Deafheaven

Every metalhead's favorite black metal (or shoegaze or post-rock or screamo) band Deafheaven are heading out on the next Converse Rubber Tracks tour. What started as just individual free shows turned into short tours of free shows this past August when High on Fire went on the first Rubber Tracks tour. Converse appears to be doubling down on the metal, and the Deafheaven tour hits NYC at Music Hall of Williamsburg on November 19 (where they also played earlier this year) with support from Beast Patrol. Though the show is free, you do need tickets, which go on "sale" Wednesday (10/29) at noon. The tour will start out in Deafheaven's hometown of San Francisco and hit the other cities like L.A., Toronto and Boston with a rotating supporting cast. All dates are listed below.

Deafheaven have a new album in the works, they just played Basilica SoundScape, and they'll also be hitting this year's Fun Fun Fun Fest.

All dates are listed, along with a stream Deafheaven's recent Adult Swim Single "From the Kettle Unto the Coil," below...

Brooklyn dreampop band Dead Leaf Echo released the true.deep.sleeper EP earlier this year and the band just made a video for it's swirling highlight "so.wrong" which was directed by singer/guitarist Lg Galleon. The video makes its premiere in this post and you can watch it below.

Dead Leaf Echo have a few shows coming up, including two this week with Detroit's Sister of Your Sunshine Vapor: Wednesday (10/8) at Lit Lounge for a CBGB Fest show with Diavel and Bootblacks. Then on Thursday (10/9) at Grand Victory they play with Beast Patrol and Wilwaukee's Brief Candles. Later in the month, DLE will play Knitting Factory on 10/30 with Fearless Sons.

Sister of Your Sunshine Vapor's most recent release was 2011Spectra Spirit which puts a goth/Doors-y spin on garage psych. Stream it below.

The band have some other dates, including a short East Coast run with The New Lines in December. All dates are listed, along with the new video and a stream of the EP, below.

Pampers

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows, but here are some highlights...

This weekend is the annual Bushwick Open Studios, which is a great chance to see a bunch of art where it's being made, walk through the many studios in the Brooklyn neighborhood, and probably nab a few free drinks along the way.

Naam, Pampers, Iron Force, Tournament, Fletcher C. Johnson, Such Hounds, Blackout, The Montauk Project, No Way, Twin Strike @ Bushwick Collective Block Party
Part of Bushwick Open Studios, this free block party is also part of the Bushwick Collective's first-ever art show, showcasing some of the city's best street artists. Eels, Chelsea Wolfe @ Apollo Theater
Indie rock veteran Eels' output continues to remain consistent with this year's The Cautionary Tales Of Mark Oliver Everett, their eleventh album. Chelsea Wolfe opens with an acoustic set and she's not to be missed. And hey, maybe Eels will bring out Steve Perry again? Don't stop believin'.

Concert for Scotty @ Bowery Ballroom
This is a benefit for artist Simon Scott who's been battling cancer and has mounting medical bills. Dave Hill and Todd Barry host and musicians performing include The Bogmen, Annie Ragz, Beast Patrol, Ben Cartel, Bloodletters & Bad Men, Blubba Bros, Bucky Hayes, Desert Stars, Hidden Cities, Jerry Fuentes, Las Hormiguitas, Love Jupiter, Major Leans, Meredith Meyer, Patrick Salt Ryan, Poor Lily, Sun Ladders, The Supernatural and more. NYC Popfest w/ The Spook School, Colour Me Wednesday, Heathers, Gold-Bears, The New Lines, The Cat's Miaow + The Shapiros (Pam and Bart), Marine Life, Lost Tapes @ Littlefield
NYC Popfest comes to a close with this all-day show at Littlefield, featuring some of the most anticipated acts of the week: '80s-era band The Popguns, scrappy UK upstarts The Spook School and Colour Me Wednesday, great Georgia band Gold-Bears and lots more.

Beverly, Mark Monnone, Pam Berry, Rocketship @ Trans-Pecos
If you missed Rocketship at Cameo last night, they play again today at this very non-Popfest-affiliated show featuring a lot of popfest bands, including solo sets from Pam Berry (Black Tambourine, Glo-worm), Mark Monnone (The Lucksmiths) and headliners Beverly. This show starts early (1 PM) and most of it is over before today's Popfest show starts, if you wanna go to both.

Chrissie Hynde @ Rough Trade
Pretenders singer Chrissie Hynde releases what's technically her first-ever solo album this year (even if she's the only consistent Pretenders member) and from the sound of the singles she's released, she's still in good form. If you pre-ordered the album from Rough Trade, you can get into this 6 PM in-store, though space is limited.

Funebrarum, Pseudogod, Wrathprayer, Diabolical Messiah, Geryon, Arsantiqva @ Saint Vitus
Lots of international metal represented on this one with Russia's Psuedogod, Chile's Wrathprayer, Chile's Diabolical Messiah, and a few local bands too.

Julie Klausner, Ted Leo, Nellie McKay, Jake Folgnest, Danielle Henderson @ The Bell House
Julie Klausner does a live taping of her popular "How Was Your Week?" podcast tonight with frequent guests Ted Leo and Jake Fogelnest in tow, not to mention Nellie McKay.

Billy Idol @ The Space at Westbury
The man who perfected the curled-lip sneer, Billy Idol also has a lot more hits than you may remember, all from the golden age of MTV. Most of them -- "Eyes Without a Face," "Dancin' with Myself," "Rebel Yell," "White Wedding" -- still sound pretty good today.

Hot 97 Summer Jam @ MetLife Stadium
Day-long NYC-area hip hop festival Hot 97 Summer Jam returns with some great stuff including 50 Cent, Nas, The Roots, DJ Mustard w/ YG & Ty Dolla $ign, Action Bronson, Troy Ave and plenty more.

Comedy Night @ Knitting Factory
Big league comedy talent (Chris Rock, Louis CK, etc) show up regularly (and unannounced) for Hannibal's very popular free comedy show at Knitting Factory's front bar. Having had his own Comedy Central special and a featured performer on Broad City, Hannibal himself is getting pretty big league. Get there early.

Tony Castles
Tony Castles

Brooklyn's Tony Castles are gearing up to release their new EP titled Sharon Stone which will be out October 23. If your favorite Tony Castles song to dates was their magnificently dreamy "Black Girls in Dresses" the six tracks on the new EP definitely lean in that direction. It makes for nice autumn listening, when the days grow shorter and shadows get long. We've got the premiere of "One Tone Man" from the EP at the top of this post and you can stream snippets of other tracks below.

The band have a few NYC-area shows coming up, including tonight (9/6) at Pianos; the Silent Lights fundraiser on September 20 at the Green Building with Motive and Gurpal (advance tickets); and September 28 at Delinquency with Backwords, Zula, and Ancient Sky.

Win Win

Tonight's show at Pianos is part of Win Win's September Residency that happens every Thursday this month at the LES club. Originally a strictly-electronics duo (whose most recent album came out on Vice last year), Win Win are now a three-piece with an updated, band-driven sound as can be heard on new single, "Salt Days," from their new album, Double Vision (due out 10/16 via VICE) which you can stream below.

Win Win's September residency line-ups are as follows:

September 6: Jahan Lennon (Mad Decent), Roofeeo, Tony Castles, Sister Crayon, Taddy Porter

September 13: Behavior, Steel Phantoms and Beast Patrol

September 20: Slam Donaue (profiled here), Sleep Kitty and Warm Ghost

September 27: Crinkles, Window, Delicate Cutters, Louis Schefano and Brian Degraw

Streams, all listed Tony Castles dates and Win Win residency flyer are below.
